Commercial Description:
Big Brown Ale aged on palo santo wood from Paraguay. This beer is a 12% abv, highly roasty, and malty brown ale aged on the wood of the Palo Santo tree from Paraguay. Palo Santo means "holy tree" and it's wood has been used in South American wine-making communities. We were lucky enough to get our hands on 20 blocks of the super-dense wood and the wood was added to the ageing tank after fermentation.

Very dark pour with brown head. Tight bubbles. Tastes like oak, chocolate, coffee, vanilla beans, and a slight hint of banana. Slight bitterness on the end of the tongue. Bitterness dissipates as it warms up. Very nice beer!!

pours a thick black color with an average sized tan head. aroma is sweet, of dark cherries, coffee, caramel, and chocolate. flavor is intense, with a mixture of vanilla bean, caramel, toffee, and a bit of smoke. alcohol is well hidden in this brew but also quite balanced.

Thick pour with quickly diminishing brown head. Complex malty aroma, notes of banana. Moderate alcohol flavor. Sweet flavor with tastes of light smoke, vanilla. Thick mouthfeel with long finish. Very good beer.

Pours a thick dark black colour with a little brown head. Aroma os bananna, smoke, coffee and wood. Mouthfeel is rich, thick and creamy with flavors of oak, chocolate and coffee grounds. Sweet but not overly rich flavors throughout the beer. Finish long and lingering, taste definately stays with you for a while.

12 oz bottle. Pours very thick, dark brown. Strong alcohol taste/smell, but not overwhelming. Some chocolate and sweetness, with bitterness in the aftertaste.

Huge presence as soon as bottle is open. Complex aroma with chocolate malts assaulting both nose and pallet. Thin head. Long finish, very roasted and strong alcohol finish.

12oz. bottle: This one pours a very dark, inky brown color. There was a small brown head on it while pouring, but it dropped off almost immediately. Very nice aroma. There is an overall richness, with some aromas poking out. I get whiffs of vanilla, chocolate, anise, some alcohol, chocolate, as well as a mix of fruits that is difficult to distinguish individual notes. The taste is a definite "Oh Wow!". The flavor is very rich, with some roastiness on top. A faint sweetness, and a huge collaboration of flavors. Dark fruits, vanilla, chocolate, a woodiness amongst many others. Very Nice! I had this on tap recently @ Rehoboth. This is an excellent beer any way you get it.

Devil-black body. Missing head. Smell of bitter berries and vanilla sweetness. Sweet, caramel malts in flavour added by dark berries. Dry, vinous impression with noticeably, warming alcohol. A real pleasure to my taste buds (gravicask at the international bar, bsf, at GBBF 05.08.2008).
