Warming alcohol, dry woody feeling, a little smoke. Pepper. Lovey sweetness that does not overpower the other elements. Eyedrinkale (3209), Astoria, New York, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Feb 10, 2009 Draft at BGH. This beer should only allowed go be poured in the DFH goblets. The aromas are charred wood, burnt cocoa and scotch. The flavor has some grape and extremely bitter chocolate. Really complex but could use a year. hotstuff (3183), Indiana, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 6, 2008 Bottle. Small fizzy light brown head that mostly diminished, splotchy lacing, opaque, some carbonation on the sides of the glass, and a dark brown hue. The nose was vanilla, caramel, wood, some chocolate, some roastiness, and hint of raisins. The flavor was roasty, caramel, sweet, malt, wood, hint of vanlla, chocolate, and finishes dry. Smooth, dry mouthfeel and medium in body. A nicely done ASA, the ABV was well masked, a delight to drink, a beer to drink slowly and enjoy the wonderful nose and flavor. Worthy of a try if it comes your way and one that I will have again should it come my way. Hats off to the folks at DFH and thanks for brewing this one!! | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 25, 2008 Bottle. Very deep brown to near black opaque pour. Fading tan head. Sweet aroma made up of caramel, chocolate, sweet malts, candy and alcohol. Taste is strong alcohol, rich caramel, light toffee, candy, chocolate, coffee, cocoa, and roasted malts. Strong woody notes throughout. Body is medium to medium-full. Lots of alcohol warmth and a dense, smooth carbonation. Finishes with more alcohol, wood, coffee, caramel, chocolate, roasted malts, and candy. Very different but very tasty! RichardGretton (3166), Leicestershire, England

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 2, 2008 Tallahassee, Fl. - Market Square Liquors - 12 oz bottle. dark, dark brown pour - edging into tar-like black with a thin, but persistent khaki colored head. Odd aroma and the closest approximation that comes to mind is the aroma of fresh cut lumber after a rain storm with some cough syrup thrown in there ~ odd. Flavor has some chocolate goodness, some cherries, a hint of espresso and some nuttiness and a wisp of vanilla if I try really hard. Do not really detect the wood in the flavor. Has some Imperial Stout characteristics with the back end fruitiness. Mouthfeel is thick and rich and the 12 % ABV is hidden quite well. Keep making these odd beers DFH - us beer geeks will keep buying ’em! ogivlado (3108), Zagreb, Croatia

I expected totally different beer than the one I got. Deep black coloured, medium sized brown head, alcohol and licorice in the nose. Roasted malt, chocolate and dried fruits taste with notes of wood, cocoa and vanilla. Also some alcohol traces in the finish. Very smooth for 12% For me this one is better than 90 minute imperial IPA. GeneralGao (3081), Iowa City, Iowa, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 7, 2008 12oz bottle. The aroma was of nuts, tree bark, light chocolate, and a dash of brown sugar. There was also a hint of anise. Poured an opaque black color. The head was light brown and retained its height well. Full bodied with carbonation on the low end of the spectrum. Smooth, velvety mouth feel. Delicately sweet with some roasty bitterness at the end. Earthy, but without any overt wood flavor. Tasted of dark fruits, chocolate, and a bit of roasty malt. There was also some alcohol flavor, but it was fairly well disguised at 12%. All in all a good brown ale.
