Dryish. Alcohol nose present. Roasty. Not as flavorful as I would like. Decent, but pales in comparison to Immort Ale I just had a couple of nights ago, IMHO.

Flavor is nutty, oak, wood, chocolate, rich malt. Easy drinking, nice mouthfeel and I could not detect 12% abv in the taste. Strong, yes but not easily shown in the taste or smell. I look forward to trying another bottle after this is laid down for awhile to see how smooth this can get. Well done DFH. jerohen (1615), Bussum, Netherlands
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 14, 2009 Bottled from Cracked Kettle, Amsterdam. Very dark brown coloured, almost no head. Very complex nose, malts, liquorice, coffee, dark fruit, very nice. Unbelieveable flavour-development, initially somewhat fruity and malty, then the chocolate and coffee comes in, followed by a hopbitter flavour and finishing up with a lasting bitter finish. Although not really my thing this is a unique brew with an astonishing flavour development at every sip. Interesting. TURDFERGUSON (1612), Carrboro, North Carolina, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 23, 2008 Bottle from TJ’s. Pours a dark brown with a good sized tan head that is decently retained and is accompanied by some nice lace. . Aroma is brown sugar, roast, wood, vanilla, and mild booze. Flavor has more roastiness at the forefront, with a slightly sugary, malty and woody aftertaste. Alcohol pretty well hidden. An interesting beer, but definitely not worth $14.49 a 4 pack. Hot Damn! | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 8, 2008 Thanks to ogivlado from bringing this here and sharing it with me! Poured an almost black body. Brown ale? Right... it would be if head mattered.. that’s brown and thick and went away slowly. It looks remarkably good though, with a crown of lazy, small streams of carbonation going around the bottom of the glass. The nose, however, didn’t impress me one bit... strong, sweet and malty as expected, it’s drowned in dust and alcohol, invoking a tiny gag reflex for me. The taste, however, fixed the impression again. A fine woody, very roasty and sweet maltiness. The alcohol is buried in there and not nearly as prominent as it was in the nose. Warming though. Light notes of bubblegum, touch of chocolatey vanilla and coffee. Sticky. Some liight acidic hop. Very complex indeed and a fine beer. Saarlander (1589), Rancho Cucamonga, California, USA

Sure, on occasion. legion242 (1588), Richardson, Texas, USA

Arome=coffee, mocha, pine, bubblegum, scotch tape, and notes of tobacco and raison. Opaque black with a light brown, bubbly, velvet on top. Usually I put taste before body on these ratings, but the full thick body of this beer is extreme. Velvety sweet molasses coffee chocolate dates raison. Vanilla and butterscotch woody notes. Medium carbonation, slightly salty, beautifully balance between chewy sweet and hops/black malt bitterness, but without the burnt/toasty characteristics of black malts.
