Commercial Description:
Big Brown Ale aged on palo santo wood from Paraguay. This beer is a 12% abv, highly roasty, and malty brown ale aged on the wood of the Palo Santo tree from Paraguay. Palo Santo means "holy tree" and it's wood has been used in South American wine-making communities. We were lucky enough to get our hands on 20 blocks of the super-dense wood and the wood was added to the ageing tank after fermentation.

12 oz. bottle - thanks to mcbackus for the bonus brew; pours thick and dark brown; frothy tan head brings aromas of dank fruit, wood, sweet candy and brown sugar; kind of wine-like; very tasty and sweet; alcohol is well hidden; flavors of vanilla and cherries; dry finish and pretty yummy overall

12oz bottle. Pitch black pour with a thin khaki head producing better than average lacing. Cocoa and vanilla instantly strike me on the nose. Toasted and slightly roasted malt. Toasted nuts and a touch of wood. Flavor has a lot of roasted malt and toasted vanilla. There’s a slight hop pine bitterness and a touch of wood tannin dryness. Mostly full bodied and quite creamy on the tongue. I think this one is too fresh and the flavors might integrate a little better with some time. Thanks Gabe!

poured a rich back color with a small khaki head that laced a ring nicely. The nose was of wood and darkfruits, not really sweet though. Flavor was woodsy, dark fruits and slight vanilla.he alcohol was balanced well and wared going down.

My bottle must have been different then others,I got a simple wood and grain aroma with hints of melon, very little alcohol detected for a 12%, there is some banana coming through, taste whoa, is that odd, strange dry malty wood taste, where the hell did all those unfermentables go,some hop in the finish,no an ounce of sweetness, merely a smooth tolerable high alcohol brew

Exciting to see such an awesome addition to the DFH lineup. This one pours a very dark brown and gives me about a finger’s worth of tan head. Some molasses, caramel, vanilla, and an unfamiliar but obviously woody scent in the aroma. The flavor has some brown sugar upfront along with some dark fruits and caramel. Dry woody finish. Great stuff.

Pours deep brown with very thin, dark tan head. Nose is full of sweet malt and a touch of wood. The flavor is very brown ale like in smoothness, with toasted nutty flavors, and a bit of malt. Not a lot of the wood detectable. A touch of licorice also.

Bottle. Dammit, I just picked this up because it looked interesting and I needed to buy something to get change for the parking meter, but now I’ve already opened it and thus trapped myself into quaffing a 12%er right when I’m at the highest muscle/fat ratio in my life. Utterly beautiful pour, opaque dark mahogany, dark tan head which quickly goes away. Nice burnt nutty type of flavor with a vanilla finish. Some chocolate thrown about here and there. As others have pointed out, there is nowhere near 12% worth of alcohol perceptible in the experience of drinking this stuff. A bit yeasty but not enough to add to it. Pretty good.

bottle from WLV...poured amlmost black and stoutlike with a moderate light brown head.....aromas of roasty chocolate malt, sweet dark fruit, and a faint trace of coffee....flavors of ash that added some smokey flavor to it. sweet roasted malt and dark fruit. very sprite and lively in the mouth. aftertaste was sweet and woody.
