Wow the smoke just billows off this one! Pours dark brown to almost black with a smooth mouthfeel. I will definitely be having this again if possible!

Very interesting and complex flavor. The finish is very clean for an imperial. Very dark color and good aroma.

A dark brown with a beige head. Aroma contains some smokey notes with chocolate and coffee notes. A bit of nutmeg also. The flavor is sweet and rich with caramel, nutmeg, and chocolate. A burnt wood thing going on. Overall excellent beer.

Truly incredible stuff. Super easy to drink for a 12% beer that’s this complex. The barrel flavor is very unique and contributes some great sweet, earthy notes.

Palo Santo = Holy Tree; DFH brew = HOLY WOW! BIG beer, lots of flavor packed in this one. Chocolate dark color, wood/malt/alcohol in the odor and palate. At 12%, it is very drinkable though a sipping beer - might be great with a med/mild cigar!

Pours dark brown with a tan head into a snifter. Smells of roasty malts and faint wood. Great aroma. Sweet malts fade into a woody flavor with a bit of alcohol heat. Nice. Silky on the palate.
Really good beer. Love the wood character. I would be interested in how this one ages.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a black color with a brief tan head that disappears. Aroma is of smokiness, malt & some spiciness. I’d say this is full-bodied. Taste is mostly a roasted malt flavor with some wood. Finish is slightly bitter and dry. Alcohol is cleverly hidden in this one.

Good malty, caramelly taste. There is also a fair amount of alcohol taste, although not as much as I expected for it being 12%.

UPDATED: FEB 19, 2014 Pours a cola color with a nice khaki cap. Aroma is roasted malts, molasses, an earthy burnt scent, sweet spices, and booze. Flavor is dark roasted malt, dark fruit, holiday spices, chocolate, and slight booze. Medium body. Great complexity. Really good.

Pours dark like a stout with a thin tan head. Big malt flavor and sweet too. The wood from Paraguay gives this malty ale a very wonderfully unique flavor profile. A great beer. I'm yet to be disappointed by Dogfish Head.
