COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Big Brown Ale aged on palo santo wood from Paraguay. This beer is a 12% abv, highly roasty, and malty brown ale aged on the wood of the Palo Santo tree from Paraguay. Palo Santo means "holy tree" and it's wood has been used in South American wine-making communities. We were lucky enough to get our hands on 20 blocks of the super-dense wood and the wood was added to the ageing tank after fermentation.

A dark brown pour, thin head, very roasty and woody nose with alcohol wafting. Dark roasty malt, some coffee notes with caramel and fruit. Bitterness balances well. Wood is background but noticeable. Full bodied, roasty astringent finish. A distinctive, interesting and complex beer with a lot to explore. I like it.

12oz poured into a DFH signature glass. I think they might have invented a Brown Stout by the way it looks in the glass. Dark brown with a small brown head that goes away quickly. Aroma is that of what a brown stout might smell like and I like it. I think I have to let this warm up a bit so please wait for more...Ok Iím back thanks for waiting. Iíve never ate any dried fruit and I havenít ever had a beer that tasted like a raison so with that said here we go. Oh, and Iíve never tasted wood (keep your mind out of the gutter please) so I donít know what wood taste like either. The flavor does have a hint of fruit, dry, wet light dark, I do not know. There seems to be a smokinessí and almost a coffee feeling to the flavor. Heavy after taste which is ok. Kind of creamy and thick in the mouth. Are they sure this isnít a stout??? You can tell there is a high alcohol% but it isnít over bearing at all. I wonder if Iíll be able to drink all 4 bottles tonight, Iíll try. 4hrs later-This is defiantly an ale once it warms up you can tell. This is a really good ale and Iím glad its year around. Just got the last bottle out of the 4pk and I think Iím walking crooked, a And yes, at times I tasted wood (grow up people). +1 for taste and overall

Pour from bottle is dark brown with a paper thin tan head. Aroma - vanilla, caramel, sweet cherries, strawberries, cranberry and nuttiness. Also faint hint of booze. Taste - maraschino cherries, bubblegum, sour fruits, bitter roasted malt, booze, and citrus hops. Palate - chewy, syrupy mouthfeel with a heavy body. Long, sweet, fruity bitter aftertaste. This is one of the most interesting beers Iíve had in a while. Complex aroma and flavor with a bittersweet bite. Definitely the best brown ale Iíve ever had by far.

Bought a 12 oz bottle. Poured it into a chalice, which resulted in a more or less flat, 1\4" limited head. The head had a reddish brown color that had the appearance of a good espressoís crema. This beer exudes sweet, fruity, vanilla notes with a fairly pronounced alcohol aroma. The pronounced alcohol smell is mirrored as strongly in the taste. The 12% ABV is very apparent, but well mingled and balanced within the sweet vanilla / caramel and the roasted grain flavors. This is a very good beer that is rich, worthy and practically boasting.

Served: 12 oz bottle Look: pours a deep black. A dark brown head evaporates to brown spider webs. That hangs around the rim. Smell: coffee, with a bitter hops smell Taste: first sip has a smokey bacon flavor. Definite taste of alcohol from the start (even when chilled). When chilled slight hint of chocolate, coffee, and cherries. Feel: strong amount of carbonation. Smooth flavor profile for the high amount of alcohol. Overall: First Drank: home Decatur March 2014

Very dark brown/black, persistent tan head. Very earthy, bready, nutty aroma with shades of dark fruit. Flavor is also very bready (dark bread), brown malt, nutty notes, a little cocoa and a hint of cola, the wood character is unusual with an earthy, oily character and a little tannic dryness. Very interesting big chewy brown ale, well made. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

There is an aroma of wood, roasted aromas, and alcohol. It is black with almost no light getting through and a deep brown head with clinging to the side. Roasted flavors dominate the taste with a pleasant wooden bite on the palate. It definitely is warming on the way down. The alcohol is strong, but not unpleasant.

Pours an opaque ruby brown with a decent sized mocha head that leaves some spotty lace. Nose involves brown sugar, minty hops, some clean chocolate, some roasted malt, sandalwood, chimney smoke, some subtle underlying cherries. Fairly sweet, quite bitter, big flavor. Big bodied, oily, viscous, fair action, drying wood action and warm finish. Really digging this, lots of cool stuff going on, very well balanced with all the elements competing for attention.

On tap it is a very dark brown not quite black with a small medium brown head. Taste is smoky coffee with hints of fruit, alcohol is not notably present. Full creamy smooth mouthfeel is very nice. Not what youíd normally expect in an ale it is more akin to a stout and is surely to be sipped and enjoyed.

Boozy, salty, ocean-like nose. Super dark like a stout...but it isnít. Caramel foam. Peppery hops, bright middle. Funk in the finish. This is good, but I really donít know what to compare it to. Almost like CBCís Blunderbuss at some points, but totally not at other points.
