12oz bottle, Bottled on 04/15/08, courtesy of heemer77, thanks a lot Eric! At least, I think that’s the date--the print was a bit smudged. It took me looking through 65 ratings before I found another RBian that had the same dated bottle. Be more specific, you lazies! Pours a thick deep ruby with a one finger brown head, pretty good retention. Lots of sweet toasted malts, brown sugar, vanilla notes, and some cola. Fig, earth, wood, and some roast and chocolate are also present. Complex! Flavor still has some chocolate and toasted malts, and adds some smoke and dry peppery wood in the finish with some alcohol--though I wouldn’t put this at 12%. Burps cola. Full body with low carbonation. This turned out pretty damn good. To hell with all of the naysayers for DFH--they’re still making new quality brews!

Oct 13, 2008 bottle. Pours stout dark with a small tan head. Big aroma of sweet malt, caramel, bourbon and alcohol. Flavor packs a wallop, but is a simply magnificent blend of roasts, wood, darker malts, and a touch of dried fruit. Mid-palate and finish showcase more of the woody, roasted, even chocolate flavors which are attractive. The body in this beer is excellent, a full-bodied mouthfeel with a perfectly extended finishing note. Yes, there is alcohol. But I really can’t agree that it overpowers the other flavors present. Everything just blends so easily together, quite a feat given the ABV of Palo Santo. If I have one complaint – and this may be dismissed as a personal bias – it is that Dogfish may have overdone the sweetness of this brew. But overall, this should rank high on the growing list of big American beers.

Oct 12, 2008 Pretty unique and enjoyable. Taste is completely sweet malts, mainly plum taste. Wine and wood flavor in the background. A little too sweet. Very full bodied and heavy beer. Light taste of alcohol in the finish. Very creamy and almost no carbonation.

Oct 10, 2008 Pours black with a ruby veneer and a shiny brown head that quickly dissapates. Reeks of bubble gum and tastes of velvety malts, lacquered wood, alcohol, raisins, and lime. Deliciously strange.

Multiple flavors from start to finish. Strong and flavorful. Great with Scandinavian stew (Selyanka) Very Good!

Oct 10, 2008 GBBF, Trade Day, 2008 Gravity cask. 3rd beer. My first three beers of GBBF 2008 were all very tasty, and with a few exceptions, were really the beers I enjoyed the most. This was rich and smooth with an awareness of alcohol, but not aggressive. A lovely beer.
