4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Served in a trappist glass. Pours an opaque, dark brown, with a thin tan head that dissipates relatively quickly. Copious amounts of lacing remain behind, however. Aroma is dense, but alcohol absolutely dominates. Letís be clear, however, the alcohol is not indiscriminate; rather, it is strongly characteristic of brandy or cognac. Beyond that, some toasted caramel malts are barely discernible. Flavor is, again, driven by alcohol. But as the beer warms, other flavors become more apparent, including some sweetness associated with burnt sugar and vanilla. Mouthfeel is somewhat thick, but not overly viscous, with a mild hint of carbonation.
In all, this is one of Dogfish Headís finest ales. Itís absolutely strong, but imminently drinkable. The alcohol is definitely front and center, and yet, other aromas and flavors (esp. caramel, sugar, vanilla, and even a slight smoked wood) are able to come forth, ensuring that a balance remains. Strongly recommended.

Pours dark with a bit of foam. Aroma is woody, something interesting going on, library bookshelf? Tastes really rich, full of chocolate, bitter one with not too much cocoa. Booze bites a bit and leaves beautiful long lasting aftertaste.

Very unique. Bottle pours Very dark brown with one finger persistent tan head. Aroma Palo Santo and malts. Taste matches with wood, vanilla, roast malts and other spices I canít identify which I guess are coming from the Palo Santo. Almost a cinnamon/nutmeg sensation. Creamy palate with woody finish.
