EBF NOTB. Yeasty vanilla and lightly roasted chocolate aroma. The flavor was the same, and actually reminded me a little of the theobroma. Fairly unique beer and pretty good also.

Pours dark and has strong aroma with smoke and malt. The taste is of roasted malt and the special wood really comes through. Very special.
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20 Balazs (561) - Budapest, HUNGARY - FEB 4, 2012
Poured pretty much black, with a beige, lacing foam. Strong wood aroma, which mixes with vanilla, plum, alcohol, caramel, and honey. Oily, dense body with medium carbonation. Sweet, roasty taste with a strong alcohol taste and a dark fruity kick. A bit strong on the palate, but not too bad considering how strong this brew is. Sweet, lasting finish, with plenty of the Palo Santo wood aroma lurking. Unique, strong, an outstanding one!

"Purchased in November in Delaware. Cellared at 50 degrees on my basement and poured into a Snifter in January at 45 Degrees F after a few minutes in the fridge. Paid $12 or a 4-Pack
A - Poured a single finger head but subsided to a thin head after 2 minutes. The head was a light brown color. The beer itself looks like a porter and pours like one as well. It’s very dark.
S - Lots of tobacco and molasses. It’s a very dry scent and some sugar aspects to it. I’m getting some whipped cream as well.
T - Wow. Super malt taste and lots of that molasses coming in the taste. It’s a very sweet beer that I’d love to pour on a pancake! There’s some caramel but not much. So glad I bought a 4-pack of this!
M - It’s a heavy beer. nice carbonation, pleasurable to drink and throw back.
O - This was a pleasurable beer and I may have a 2nd one tomorrow. It’s very delicious and so great to drink! I love it!"

(Bottle) Pours near black with a small brown head. The aroma is heavy and complex with tones of sweet fruits, maple syrup, mild chocolate roast, fresh vanilla-ish wood, fat caramel, nuts, dark plums, sticky dates, dark cherries, ripe blue grapes and sweet blackberry jam. Undertones of plant sap, sweet liquorice, sweet tar, banana and glue-like alcohol. The flavour is medium to heavily sweet and light bitter with notes of maple syrup, vanilla-ish wood, liquorice, dark chocolate, dark fruits, caramel and light banana. The mouthfeel is fat, soft, bit smooth and tiny sticky. Light peppery. The finish is sweet with a light bitter sting from the hops. Near full bodied.

Bottle from Kris Wines. Dark dark brown colour with small dark golden head round the edge of the glass. Very thick when pouring. Aroma is ultra roasty, bit of booze there too. Some herbal element/medicinal and some nuttiness. Taste is sweet boozy, bit of coffee bitterness, and something which I guess could be the smoked wood. Lots of dark fruit too and some vanilla. Texture is quite oily and thick. Goes down very smoothly. Bit of a knockout beer, and so much going on it is a bit hard to pinpoint stuff. Really nice.
3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 mcmisko (98) - - JAN 28, 2012
Dark brown with tan head. Wood is not too strong on the nose, toasty malts rise above it. A bit of coffee, floral hops and smoked wood. Nice brown ale!

Very thick, malty and dark ale that has a smokey, spicy and woody flavor. It has a bitter smell of raw choclate, but a nice sweet and smooth taste. I would buy it again if I wanted a more chocolate/coffee/caramel and toasty flavor. I agree it’s earthy and leathery.... I can sort of get a cough drop, licorice and ginger flavor as well. It’s very complex.
