M - 50/50 carbonation, heavy body. Lingering cheap candy taste that never seems to go away
O - Didn’t enjoy this beer at all.

Draft at the Khyber. Muddled orange color with a tight white head. Lots of fruity ester and spicy notes. Passionfruit. Nutmeg. Orange zest. Ginger. Pineapple. Hint of some earthy truffle flavors. Pleasant, but still seems more of a collection of flavors than a smooth blend.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
The beer pours an orange-amber color with a white head. The aroma is full of bread with some ginger notes. There is also some fruit in the aroma but I can’t put my finger on exactly what fruit it is. The flavor is similar. The predominant flavor I get is ginger, but there is also some sweetness from the bread and toffee malt. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Pretty good, but I was hoping the beer would be more complex.

Gorgeous, dark golden ale...makes you feel fancy just looking at it. Very nice, strong ginger smell - kinda like the pickled ginger you get at a sushi bar. You taste the ginger immediately, then a slight barley maltish flavor, then Belgian yeast....and then you taste the ginger again. It really is like a world tour...you even end up right back where you started!

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
750 ml bottle purchased over a year ago at Holiday Wine Cellar ($10.99). Pours a clear dark honey-amber hue with a full two fingers of eggshell-colored head. Aroma of ginger, honey, and sticky fruit, and cloves. Flavor has notable ginger along with honeysuckle, caramel, dry spice, and fruity esters (lemon, orange) courtesy of the Belgian yeast. The ginger is good and there’s a nice level of sweetness. Light mouthfeel with a tinge of alcohol present. Pretty good, but the price leaves a lot more to be desired. (713, 676)

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
pours semi-dark orange, small quickly dissipating head, minor ringed retention, micro CO2, slow-moving runny lacing, slow-moving CO2 streams. Lightly malted ginger, a bit of orange. Half-sharp CO2 tingly & creamy start, candied ginger in the mid, minimal ginger burn, deep 3/10 bitterness near the end, off-dry clean finish. Notes of bitter orange peel, pink grapefruit, and honey. Medium-high complexity, medium-depth, long finish, excellent balance, great transitions, good carry. An exceptionally balanced and nuanced ginger beer.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
2012.02.17 - 750ml bottle in snifter. Pours medium orange, or mild copper in color. Aroma is interesting, a bit of a Belgian smell and yes, ginger. Almost a mild fruity aroma with a spicy element. Interesting aroma that leads right into an interesting flavor. Taste matches aroma. A mild fruitiness and a ginger spice. The ginger is pretty mellow while being obvious. Mouthfeel is light, a slight carbonation, alcohol is well hidden. Nice beer.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. The pour was a medium orange brown with an average sized (1-2 finger) white fluffy head that reduced itself within a few minutes to a small amount of residue that left a little puddling and a nice foamy collar creating some great sticky sheeting of lace.
The aroma was a tad funky and had a strong scent of a straw and grain malts, a flowery hop and a moldy yeast with notes of caramel, ginger, pepper, clove and a bit of dust.
The taste was lightly acidic and bitter, yet good and malty with a hint of caramel and ginger early on and then became a bit bitterer and tad maltier with a hint of tea and a strong dose of spices ant the end. The flavor lasted an average time after the swallow with the taste of the spices hanging on the longest.
Mouthfeel was somewhere between light and medium in body with a dry watery texture and a lively carbonation.
Overall a nice bold and satisfying beer with a very good blending of all the different flavors that make up this tasty brew.
