COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
An experimental beer using one ingredient from every continent (crystallized ginger from Australia, fermantable blue rice from Asia, Belgian yeast, etc.) Pangaea is the name of the Earth's sole supercontinent before the continents split over a billion years ago.

Bottle, shared with Bergen Beer Geek Tasting Crew and Meilby. Pours a hazy orange body with a big creamy white head. Nose is pumpkin, caramel, cinnamon, butterscotch, ginger and candy sugar. Nice and sweet. Taste is sweet ginger and peppery herbal tones, with hints of pumpkin and caramel malts. Sweet, but not unbalanced. Medium body and carbonation. A nice and unorthodox ale which could probably work well as a traditional Scandinavian Christmas beer. :-)

750ml bottle from Half Time (Poughkeepsie NY). Poured a clear dark amber color with a small foamy white head. Aroma of burnt sugar, caramel malt, ginger, and spice. Taste of sweet candied ginger, syrupy malt, sweet fruit, and Belgian spices.

Draught @ the saucer. Complex caramel color. Frothy off-white head. Complex aroma with pumpkin, spice, basement, and rye coming to mind. Flavor is dominated by pumpkin spice cake, nutmeg and cream. If I didnt know any better I would say this was a pumpkinator but the color is wrong. If starts fizzy, transitions smooth and has a light, bitter finish.

From BA review on 2-25-12 - Served in a 10 oz chalice glass Appearance –Served a yellow-orange color with a little bit of haze. Upon serving there was a nice billowy white head that faded slowly. Upon fading the head leaves a moderate level of lacing. Smell – Initially the aroma begins with some nice citrus hop; mainly orange and grapefruit in nature. These aromas then begin to mix with aromas of ginger, bready malt, and some brown sugar/molasses aromas as well. At the very end there is a very light floral hop aroma which mixes with the other rounding out the aroma nicely. It’s quite unique, and rather inviting. Taste – The taste is interesting as well. A maltiness is most pertinent up front. The taste then sweetens a bit with some caramel and brown sugar flavors mixing in. These are also mixed in with some spiciness – mainly ginger and cinnamon. Some bitterness works its way in from the hoppiness of the citrus. All these flavors, as they did in the aroma, make a unique drinking beer with a rather oddly refreshing taste. Mouthfeel - While the taste and aroma were rather unique, the mouthfeel was rather normal. It was slightly above normal thickness and its carbonation was very standard. Overall – This was an interesting beer. It had some very unique aspects to it making it a very nice one to sit back and test out.

2011 bottle at tasting..medium dark amber color..nose is mostly saffron and quite similar in almost every respect to Midas Touch..mouthfeel is a bit thin and weak and not much interest here...chalk this up to another unique dfh offering that has an interesting storyline but not much else

2009 vintage, 750 ml bottle into a DFH glass. Pours a clear amber with a finger of white foam with large suds. Nose is a whole lot of spicy and sweet ginger. Some caramel malt but this smells like liquid candied ginger. Taste is light with tons of sweet ginger. The spice is very minimal. Aftertaste is a bit cardboardy and bready. Drinkability is very high but this is pretty boring. Medium mouth feel. I remember liking it fresh and with four years on the odometer it’s certainly aged well enough. Like drinking a mild ginger ale.

750ml served in a St Bernardus chalice Bottled in 2010 A - Clear burnt golden body with a finger of creamy head that banks a nice collar. Speckled lacing. S - Old fruit bread, peaches, apricots, applesauce, raisins, syrupy sweet malt, candied ginger, mint tea, spicy, oxidized bready character. T - Odd flavors going on here, peppermint, various unknown spices, like the entire spice rack all mixed in. Belgian yeast, hefty candied malt with some toasted evergreen/herbal hops. The malt is very sweet with tangy over ripened fruit (peaches, pears, apricots) wrapped around a moderate vitamin/mineral character. Oxidized ginger bread comes to mind. M - Dense and full bodied, low creamy carbonation, viscous feel. I like the experimentation of this beer but there is alot going on. It’s fun to drink but it’s A.D.D. in nature and doesn’t have much focus. There’s no telling what all Sam put i this beer. And it’s quite sweet. A fun beer to talk about and review. Hopswagger (197) - South Carolina, USA - JAN 12, 2014
P: A murky speckled dark orange to light orange body topped with a tan layer of creamy froth. Creamy top dwindles to a layer similar to melted vanilla ice cream. Wet slippery lacing climbing the sides. S: Crystalized ginger, herbal hops, creamed corn, orange oil, cinnamon, clove, allspice, Chinese 5 spice, hidden toasted toffee, and Belgian yeast. Aroma is similar to a aromatherapy room with ginger added to the mix. T/M: Mentholated halls, numerous spices and crystalized ginger upfront followed by pungent green tea tannins that encompass my entire mouth. Lemon grass and honey linger on the dry finish. Mouthfeel is kinda light-medium but nice and creamy with a touch of prickly carbonation at the start. O: An explosion of herbs, spices and sweetness. I really think this is more of a herb/spice beer than a BSPA. The execution if this was great and the flavors really worked well with each other. I’m excited to see it so cheap at the store and I will for sure get more. Cheers!
