COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Positive Contact is a cider-beer-hybrid veeeeeery loosely based on a Belgian-style Wit beer brewed with a bunch of unconventional ingredients for the style. Typically, Wits are brewed using bitter orange peel and coriander, but we went a different route. Inspired by one of Sams trips to Eataly in New York City, Sam and Ben brewed this beer with organic Fuji apple cider, fresh organic cilantro, and dried cayenne pepper. The cider was pressed in house from 200 lbs of apples with our very own fruit press. These wonderful fresh ingredients were delivered to usa couple of days before the brew by Sams friend Zeke of Washingtons Green Grocer. The grain bill for this brew was about 50/50 wheat and barley but a small portion of Anson Mills Slow-Roasted Farro was also added. To make this awesome product, the folks at Anson Millsuse a unique ancient heirloom variety of grain which imparts a delicate aromatic quality (Farrois traditionally used in soups and similar dishes). On top of that, a new hop variety was used, named Calypso, which lends notes of pear and apple that perfectly compliment the other ingredients in the brew. It was then fermented with a Belgian Wit yeast strain, adding both fruity and spicy complexity. This beer was made with a number if ingredients more traditionally used in the culinary world and we designed it to be a dazzling nimble food-pairing brew. Positive Contact: Between beer and cider. Between food and drink. Between us and you.

On tap at Brewpub. Pours a dark orangish color with a small off-white head that was short lived. Sweet and tart apple aromas with a hint of soft spices. Mild apple cider flavors, followed up by spicey and herbal undertones. Alcohol peaks through in the finish. The mouthfeel was light and dry with a decent carbonation.

Bottle. Pours semi-cloudy gold. Small white head. Nose and taste of wheat malt, apple cider, cilantro, apple, light spice and dried fruits. Medium body. Finishes with a hint of spice.

750mL bottle, pours a hazy golden with a small white head. Aroma is very bizarre, full of apple cider upfront, with cilantro and other indiscernible spices. Flavour brings out notes of apples, some subdued spices, and no hint of the cilantro. The apple cider is basically what comes through here. Light palate, with no hint of the alcohol other than the warming effect. Decent beer – bizarre as always from Dogfish Head.

Now that is different. An expectant cloudy pale of a Belgian wit. A sour wet smell with hints of apples. Frothy spiced apple cider with hop undertones. Fizzy and full mouth feel strangely balanced weird but good.

Poured a golden yellow hue with a white head that faded away rather quickly. A somewhat elevated level of carbonation was present. Aroma seemed to be dominated by apples. A nice spicy note from the coriander and cilantro seemed to complement the sweetness. There was a mild presence from the grains. It had a nice blend of grains but I really could not detect them. Flavor was interesting at first i did not like it. The spiciness from the herbs seemed to overpower the other flavors, but it seemed to balance out as i drank more. Apples still dominated the flavor. A nice mix of spices and a better malt presence. A nice mouth feel and although there was a light of effervescence from the carbonation it did have almost a syrupy feel. Nice beer.

Pale gold with foamy run lasting head; aroma is yeasty with bananna notes; flava is rich and sweet with notes of bananna rounding out with sugary and grainy notes with hint of spice; feels medium thick with fizz; finishes sweet cloying the tongue and some grain

On tap at Warren’s Ale House in Wheaton, IL., and served to a tulip/snifter showing a golden color, with quickly reducing, bubbly white head foam, and spotty lacing. The aroma was light yeast, wheat aromatics, sweet apple & pear, light floral, spice, and herbal hints, with some tart and vinous nature. The flavor was similar, with a light body, lively effervescence, sweetness, with balancing tartness, fairly crisp finish, and well disguised alcohol content.

Cidery, white wine flavor. The aroma is just sort of sweet with a tinge of sour funk. Okay

I tried a sample of this at a Dogfish sampling. It has the aroma and taste of a Belgian pale ale. It is bready and yeasty. It wasn’t bad.

On tap at Easy Tiger in Austin. Poured in a wine glass golden with a small head. Big pear and apple aroma with some funky yeast and spice. Sweet honey pear flavor with prickly carbonation and a crisp finish. Medium-light bodied and easy to drink. A nice beer.
