fidelis83 (709), Clinton, Iowa, USA Sep 19, 2009 Pours light copper with a 1 finger creamy, egshell head that has excellent retention and leaves some nice lacing. Aroma is pumpkin, nutmeg, lemon poppyseed bread, a hint of grainy malt and a little mineral on the back end, some ethanol as it warms. Flavor is caramel, sweet grain, too much nutmeg, a little pumpkin, sweet cinnamon, ethanol (especially as it warms), and some mineral notes to the finish. Palate is thin and slick with a medium carbonation. I am pretty disappoined in this stuff, it’s not terrible, but I think I built it up too much and was excited to finally see it in my local store. Needs more pumpkin, more body, more sweetness and less spice, especially at 7%abv as it warms it gets kinda boozy and more, and more spicy. Zaprozdower (41), Boone, North Carolina, USA Sep 19, 2009 Pretty nice pumpkin ale. Spice is slightly over-dominant, but makes for a wonderful aroma. Where this beer needs important is the mouthfeel; could have used a lot more pumpkin to make it less watery and more hearty. Still a top 5 pumpkin ale. Guinness4Duff (507), Tallahassee (and Poconos, PA), Florida, USA Sep 18, 2009 Bottle. Clear amber/light brown pour with a small off white head. Nice aroma of nutmeg and spice. Good flavor, caramel sweetness with pumpkin and spice coming through nicely. Very Good overall. wetherel (1565), Encinitas, California, USA Sep 17, 2009 Bottle at PP bottle shop. Amber color. Well balanced. Low in flavor. Pumpkin is barely noticable. Easy to drink. Ok. neepsntatties (284), Portland, Oregon, USA Sep 17, 2009 Tried this tonight. It was a bottling from August of this year. Colour... medium amber with a thin tan off-white head. Nose... a helluva lot of pie spice but no "punkin’". Palate... decent level of C02, LOADS of cinnamon and nutmeg all across the palate, the brown sugar is evident, esp. in the residuals of the glass, but not much in the way of pumpkin. I’m beginning to think that most pumpkin ales just need to be called, "pumpkin pie spice" ales! Cavie (1318), Fort Worth, Texas, USA Sep 16, 2009 Clear heavy orange color. Some cinnamon and ginger spice right away. A feel of pumpkin is not far behind. Fairly well done flavor. Upfront is mostly roasted spices with pumpkin and cinnamon taking point. The finish morphs into a ginger finish which reminds me of the third day smell of the pumpkin lid that has sucked up flame and candle smoke nightly. For a pumpkin spice ale, I enjoy this. dalepryor (172), Paducah, Kentucky, USA Sep 16, 2009 very flavorful, nice mix of spice. not much pumpkin though.... i did like the brown sugar this is what attracts me to this. punkrkr27 (608), Berkley, Michigan, USA Sep 15, 2009 Copper pour with a nice dense, 1 finger, white head. Caramel, brown sugar, and toast aroma with a nice balance of roasted pumpkin and spices. The aroma has a nice balance to it that many other pumpkin ales don’t have. Not cloying. Not overly spiced. Just nice and balanced. The flavor is predominately allspice, yet not too strong, with a lingering pumpkin pie filling at the finish and light notes of bread, brown sugar and toast. Creamy medium body with soft carbonation and well hidden alcohol.
