caresville (106), Vernon, New Jersey, USA Aug 17, 2009 i had this beer straight out of the bottle last year at a party because my friend said he literally could not finish this and it was the worst DFH he’s ever had (and we both love most of there stuff). unfortunately after taking a whiff which i thought smelled like ripe pumpkins i took a sip and it tasted like a rotting pumpkin. i couldnt finish mine either and the other 2 beers went to waste and we ended up running back to the store and getting some 90 minutes. drowland (1360), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Aug 13, 2009 You can definitely smell, taste, and feel the alcohol and esters from the added fermentables. I guess stereotyping goes both ways; I was expecting more from DFH. williamherbert (461), Syracuse, New York, USA Aug 12, 2009 Had at the Bayou Cafe in Glenville, NY on a football Sunday. Some quick notes...
* Light orange, transparent.
* A thin film of head.
* Nutty, dark brown sugar aroma
* Also a spicy, bready pumpkin smell
* Roasted malt flavor initially
* Mild flowery hop second
* The feel is creamy and smooth
* There is just enough spice, but not sharpy; it’s dull and roasted.
* Dark caramel really comes through throughout the duration.
* It’s a fine, balanced pumpkin ale, with a little more hops than expected. hopheadfett (50), Oak Ridge, New Jersey, USA Aug 11, 2009 Pours a copper with a very small white head, good lace. Wow, I’ve had quite a few pumpkin flavored beers in my day, and this one is the best so far. Immediate nose of pumpkin, brown sugar, and cinnamon and spice. Taste is the same, dominating pumpkin flavor mixed with a perfect balance of spice. I am shocked at some of these ratings, as far as lack of pumpkin and such, as this beer has such an overwhelming pumpkin presence. This is my 2nd year with this brew, and notes are the same. Definitely a treat, especially in late October (although its August right now), and has no flaws, its a specialty brew, and shouldn’t be treated as anytihng else. BOLTZ7555 (1053), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Jul 30, 2009 Not a bad beer for a Halloween night but wish that Pumking was available in AZ. Tons of brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg both in aroma and flavor. Possesses the "pumpkin spices" but is missing the pumpkin. Medium mouthfeel. arondee (176), Tucson, Arizona, USA Jul 22, 2009 Pours a copper color with a with a white head. Good lacing, medium carbonation. Aroma is pumpkin, nutmeg, and cinnamon. The taste is lots of pumpkin, chai tea, spices and alcohol. One of the better pumpkin beers I’ve had. Shakesbeere (52), Massachusetts, USA Jul 18, 2009 A potent aroma of pumpkin, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Flavor is a little weaker. A lot of nutmeg and spice combined with the pumpkin and brown sugar -- almost like a mixture of pumpkin pie and chai. A fun flavor, but it becomes a little overbearing. T2Tool (352), Murfreesboro, Tennessee, USA Jun 19, 2009 For the style this is a solid beer, but I’m not a big pumpkin fan so that kind of makes it hard to be objective with this beer. Pours from a bottle into a pint glass a nice orange color. Pumpkin, brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg dominate both the aroma and the taste. Pretty much the bottle label tells you exactly what you are getting. Have to give it solid ratings for being what it says it is.
