DTM (541), Winters, California, USA Feb 16, 2009 Bottle from Total Wine in Roseville, CA. Poured an orange color with a large white head. Smelled of pumpkin and fall spices. A little too much nutmeg for me and needed a little more hops to balance the sweetness. Overall a well made beer. BrotherGrendel (551), San Diego (La Jolla), California, USA Feb 9, 2009 Pours a ruby orange hue, white sudsy head dissipates to a ring, great clarity. Nose is dominated by spices (nutmeg and brown sugar), tones of pumpkin and bready malts. Taste is spice-forward with allspice and ginger hitting first, followed by cinnamon and brown sugar, the pumpkin is really in the background but consistent, some bready and nutty malts near the bitter finish. Medium-full bodied, moderate-high carbonation, oily texture coats the tongue. Overall a beer more spiced than pumpkin, good for the fall season. trayns (237), Beverly Hills, Michigan, USA Feb 8, 2009 On tap at Ashley’s in Ann Arbor. Not a big fan of pumpkin flavored ales, but this is the most tolerable of them that I’ve had. Pours a nie golden orange, medium white head. Smells of cinnamon spice and nutmeg. Taste a nice subtle pumpkin style flavor. Overall, a nice mild, good tasting pumpkin ale. fidel (887), Livermore, California, USA Feb 6, 2009 Pours clear orange amber, malty, spices, pumpkin, little brown sugar, little hops. jkwalking05 (1483), Arlington, Texas, USA Jan 31, 2009 Amber orange in color with a smallbeige head. Great Pumpkin smell and flavor.
milljam (562), Norman, Oklahoma, USA Jan 30, 2009 Nice aroma, earthy, pumpkin, brown sugar. Nice flavor up front, spicy taste, just the right amount of pumpkin. Sweet, brown sugar. Cinnamon. A bit thin on the finish, body is a little weak. Could use some more fullness on the mouthfeel, a bit overcarbonated, as some have noted. Slight presence of alcohol. Finish while weak on flavor is bitter.
nickd717 (1276), Palo Alto, California, USA Jan 29, 2009 Updated: May 21, 2009A good pumpkin ale, but not quite a great one. Amber color with small head. Lots of pumpkin on the aroma. Good malt backbone. The pumpkin spices are great, but I would like them to be a little more balanced. Mouthfeel is a little watery and alcohol is not very well hidden. But make no mistake: I’ll drink it, and lots of it at that. mburmei1 (7), Atlanta, Georgia, USA does not count Jan 27, 2009 I’m a real pumpkin fan so this was a treat for that reason. Especially considering the last pumpkin ale (which will not be named here) was utterly terrible.
Alright, here we go:
Appearance is an orange-amber with faint cloudiness. Aroma is pumpkin dominated with some nutmeg. Mouthfeel is very smooth. The aromas translate very well into the taste, along with some banana, and some cinnamon.
