astrofrk (218), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Jan 24, 2009 Amber. Small head. Aroma: Spices, pumpkin. Flavor: Same with light bitter finish. robertjm (399), El Cerrito, California, USA Jan 24, 2009 Pours orange colored body. Nice white foamy head. Good level of carbonation. Aroma contains lots of spices. Not overpowering, but just the nice aromatic level. Flavor profile is interesting. First and foremost its laden with lots of "punkin" spices, especially nutmeg. Underlying flavor of pumpkin. Hops are not so prevelent. What’s interesting is that this is one of the four all-year-round beers from Dogfish that Bevmo is apparently carrying. While its a good beer, I’m perplexed why they’d choose this one over 60 min IPA. Still, any Dogfish you can get is a good Dogfish!! hillfiiiiire (283), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Jan 19, 2009 Orange amber body with a thin white head. Actually did this up against my homebrewed pumpkin beer. Spicy vegetable aroma. Not too much pumpkin. The flavor is alright, but not too exciting. Some pumpkin comes through in the finish. Finishes kind of dry. Tolerable. My homebrew was decidedly better. ketchepillar (476), Viña del Mar, Chile Jan 18, 2009 Not very much pumpkin and the spices and brown sugar just make a muddled mess. I can kinda tell there’s a pumpkin pie character to it, but it’s not very good. Vegetal. jb (1024), Rochester, New York, USA Jan 16, 2009 On tap at McGregors, pretty standard pumpkin. Nice looking, pumpkin colored, thick head, spicy aroma, mostly pumpkin pie but was a tiny bit hoppier than some of these. I liked it but more than 1 at a time would be too much. machfive55 (218), Columbia, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 12, 2009 For a brown ale, this was fairly light in color it poured a clear dark amber. The aroma is mostly malty with a nice cinnamon, spicey background that definately catches your attention but is not overwhelming. The beer drinks mostly like a brown ale with some interesting spiciness in the background and you can definately taste the pumpkin although it is fairly subtle and you have to search for it, especially if the beer is cold, it comes out as the beer warms. There is some chalkiness to this beer that was odd. jerc (3861), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jan 8, 2009 2008-12-22. Orangey amber body, modest beige head. (3+) Perfumey spice in the aroma mostly blows off, sweet mild fruit notes. (6+) Flavour is thinner than hoped. Mild spices, muted malt and pumpkin. very light bitterness in the finish. Average plus palate. Not but frankly pretty disappoint since I have been wanting to try it for a long time, and it lacks the oomph and richness of more recent examples like ST Pumpking or Michigan Screaming Pumpkin. Bottle shared by GregClow
Barrios (852), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Jan 3, 2009 Updated: Sep 7, 2009Split bottle with Butters at 1st Cellar Blowout. Poured a white head with and orange color. Smells like pumpkin pie. Tastes of pumpkin and caramel with a medium body. Slightly astringent. Note: 9/7/09 Had a bottle that is a year old. Smoother than my original description. Raised a point in aroma and overall.
