poisoneddwarf (153), Rathdrum, Idaho, USA Oct 30, 2009 12 oz bottle. Aroma of....pumpkin beer! Pours a light amber hue with little head, decent lacing. Flavors just as the label describes. Much more full-bodied than Blue Moon’s Pumpkin Ale and Jack’s (Michelob). Not watery at all. Definitely the best "punkin" beer yet. gorditoabd (162), San Diego, California, USA Oct 30, 2009 12 oz Bottle. Pours the color of fizzy dark apple cider with minimal foam. Aromas are faint, but what is there is clearly of pumpkin, cinnamon, and nutmeg. The flavor is initially a touch watery, but then fills out nicely to strong notes of cinnamon, nutmeg, and, of course, pumpkin. It’s like pumpkin pie in a glass. Nice stuff. Far superior to the other “pumpkin ale” I tried this season. Saarlander (1577), Saarlouis, Germany Oct 30, 2009 Abit on the mild side, Higher, well hid alcohol brew, some faint spices, but flavor is dominated by sweetness, wish for more spice, not a bad brew by any means, just could use abit more flavor! LtDan (471), LA - Originally from South NJ!, California, USA Oct 29, 2009 Appearance: Pours a clear amber with a small gathering of white froth at the top.
Aroma: Pumpkin meat, nutmeg, cinnamon and something rather floral.
Taste: Nutmeg, bitter hops, cinnamon, pumpkin. Finishes with the beginning flavors described: nutmeg and hops.
Mouthfeel: Thin to medium bodied, far less thick than I remember last year.
Overall: Not my favorite offering from DFH and not my favorite pumpkin beer. I do appreciate that it isn’t super sweet, I’d like some of the other pumpkin ales I’ve tried to be not so obnoxiously sweet. Dandeman321 (4), Ohio, USA does not count Oct 29, 2009 Love this beer. I noticed cinnamon and nutmeg flavors. Great taste. One of my favorite fall ales. DerWeg (748), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Oct 28, 2009 A bit simple and candyish, I left half the four pack at my sister’s. Probably the least complex, harmonized and interesting of the 6-7 Pumpkin ales I have tasted. Not bad but citouille is far far better, and so is Great Lakes. drseusszb200 (183), Florida, USA Oct 28, 2009 poured darker amber with a decent head that faded rather quickly to give good lacing. smelled like spicey pumpkin pie. tastes about teh same with some sweet caramel also. i remember having this beer last year and it wasnt nearly as good. Davetopay (36), Leesburg, Virginia, USA Oct 28, 2009 Never the same beer twice. That can be good or bad, depending upon what you are looking for. I understand that the very nature of the brew lends it self to being variable. This year (2009) is much better than last year, but doesn’t manage top honors for pumpkin of the year. Nice redish brown pour that captures the magic glow of good whiskey, a moderate head that sustains reasonably well. Big pie spices on the nose along with tobacco, pulpy fruit(the gourd), and a slight burnt note. Quite nice. The spices do their thing with out being overpowering, and you can tell they are real, unlike SOME pumpkin ales on the market. The fruit isn’t the star here, but you can tell that it is really in there. A good solid fall pumpkin ale without any faults.
