mrant (330), New York, USA Oct 4, 2008 Smells faintly of spices and pumpkin. Taste is very flaorful with spices and a faint pumpkin flavor. One of the better pumpkin beers out there. marcus (1821), Sacramento, California, USA Oct 4, 2008 On tap at Toronado. This orange amber ale poured with a thin off-white head and a pumpkin pie aroma. There is a decent caramel malt base with lots of sugar and spices and a fairly bitter finish. It’s an interesting seasonal beer, but not as well-crafted as some of the better offerings from this brewery. Beershine (2678), Hue, Vietnam Oct 3, 2008 Bottle. Clear amber with thick white foam. Pure squash aroma. Sweetness is more pronounced than spice. Lots of brown sugar. Mouthfeel is decent but slightly prickly. Sweeter, less spicy pumpkin ale but has cinnamon and nutmeg finish, and is liqueur-like. Is really accessible and appealing. Nice one. DrDavid (957), Johnson, Vermont, USA Oct 3, 2008 (Bottle). Light aroma of pumpkin and nutmeg. Amber color, off-white head. Flavor could have more pumpkin; it’s rather vague, and a little too spicy. Not bad, though. hombrepalo (742), Chicago, Illinois, USA Oct 3, 2008 12oz. bottle, Pours brown golden brown with a hint of orange. Aroma is great. smells like christmas cookies. Taste is a bit of a let down, too light and watery. overall a beer worth trying but nothing special.
rampmaster (314), Alden, New York, USA Oct 3, 2008 Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a pint glass.
Appearance: It had a honey amber color with very good clarity. The head that was produced was light tan in color, average in size and slowly settled down to a thin covering. Lacing was spotty and it quickly slid down the glass.
Smell: The aroma was full of spicy clove, cinnamon and nutmeg.
Taste/Mouth feel: It has decent pumpkin flavor up front with a good solid malty body. Hints of sweet brown sugar, pumpkin pie spices and vanilla notes mix in well and add a good, well balanced complexity. It finishes on the sweet side and slowly with mild spicy hops and mild warmth from its 7%abv. The palate has a slick, smooth texture with medium to full body and lively carbonation.
Notes: Wow this was good. I really enjoyed the balance of flavor and judicious spicing which gives it a great drinkability.
sinkr (212), Lusby, Maryland, USA Oct 2, 2008 Bottle->lager glass: Pours a large, fivzzy, off-white head that exhibits spare lacing atop an amber body. Light aroma of hops, along with nutmeg and cinnamon. The body is medium, the texture sticky, and soft carbonation. The flavor’s duration is average. I think this beer gets better farther into the season and I’m not sure whether or not it’s a function of how the beer ages or if it is differences in production.
Anyhow, I look forward to this beer. Slipstream (734), USA Oct 2, 2008 Dark amber pour with no head. Nicely colored DH label. Very congenial aroma - malty sweet with floral tones. Strong character of this brew fits in with the DH style. It is fully hopped and malty rich, with some enjoyable coffee bitterness in the finish. Some sugar and spice, but not as much as promised. Other raters seemed to notice a lot more than I did. I drank mine on the cold side, so that could account for the difference. There is a slight hint of pumpkin that comes thru in the form of a light vegetal flavor. This is not really much of a pumpkin ale, but it is a rockin’ brown ale, and one of my favorite releases by Dogfish Head.
