CapFlu (3480), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada Nov 10, 2007 (Draught) Sampled at Duck Island Saloon in Seattle, WA, on October 20, 2007. Foamy white head and orange body. Nose and flavour of full-on pumpkin pie, nutmeg, cinnamon and gourd. Average. Nothing exciting happening here... kimcgolf (825), Dacula, Georgia, USA Nov 5, 2007 Pours to a light, reddish-orange color with thin white head that longers awhile and leaves okay lacing. Aroma is fairly mild, but a pleasant mixture of spices and sweet fruit. Mouthfeel is somewhat tingly and full, and the flavor is a nice blend of holdiay tastes....nutmeg, pumpkin and cinnamon to name a few.
I would have rated even higher, but the finish seemed short and a little stale. Overall, though, a nice twist, and even though I’m not much of a fan of Herb-Vegetable beers, this was an enjoyable offering from DFH. chicagodri (1020), Chicago, Illinois, USA Nov 2, 2007 I think the best thing about this beer is the way it smells. When you pour it there is basically no head whatsoever. Nice flavor full of pumpkin, spices, nutmeg, etc. However, I would say this is a beer I would have one of and then move on to something else. bhensonb (4189), Woodland, California, USA Nov 2, 2007 Interesting aroma of squash and pie spices. Very nice amber color but there was virtually no head. Thin to medium body with mild, near creamy, carbonation. There is dominating nutmeg, squash, and pie spice. It is a good "punkin" ale. So was NIght Owl. Query whether Buffaloe Bill’s is. The mouthfeel is nice. Smooth. The finish is dry enough, and there is nice floral/spice/herb that persists. It is really nice for once in awhile. I really like it. tagz (334), USA Nov 2, 2007 bottle. pours clear orange gold. aroma of nutmeg, alcohol and spices. upon first taste flavor was a bit light, thin palate, and alcohol bite, but this one filled out a lot as it warmed. spices came though, nice mild bitter. distinct from other pumpkins - less malty, more edge. not my favorite but definitely interesting. WeeHeavySD (2942), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Nov 2, 2007 12ozer from trade with somone shared with tony in the presence of k marker. yes i said it. Pours orange light with a big white foamy head. Very low coolness in nose. Light pumpkin high spice taste. not bad not great. GlenVargas (120), El Paso, Texas, USA Nov 1, 2007 I’ve drunk the Punkin Ale (bottle) on three or four separate occasions, and I’ve been stumped on exactly what angle to take for my rating. Punkin Ale is well-crafted with all the necessary sweetness and cinnamony spice for a pumpkin beer, but it doesn’t overdo things. This means that it tastes fine, but it comes off as somewhat forgettable as well. While it may not be spectacular, I don’t have any real criticisms. I’ll probably have to keep on drinking Punkin Ale just so I can develop an honest opinion of it. Of course, I’ve got no problem with that either. jcwattsrugger (5223), Florida and, New Jersey, USA Nov 1, 2007 on tap @Old Bay-pours a thin rocky off white head and amber color. Aroma is pumpkin, cinnamon/nutmeg, allspice, some bitterness, alcohol. Taste is pumpkin, cinnamon/nutmeg, allspice, some bitterness, alcohol.
