awautlet (45), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Oct 12, 2007 Pours a gorgeous golden brown. On the nose there is malt, hops and a slight hint of pumpkin. On the palate it seemed to me like a hoppy brown ale with hints of caramel and toasted malt followed by a very slight hint of pumpkin. I think this would have been killer if there was a bit more of the pumpkin, but i’d definately drink this again. BeerPrince (1701), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Oct 11, 2007 Chestnut body with minimal head. Aroma is light allspice with some alcohol. Not enough malts or spice to flavour this like pumpkin. Simply not as good sa many other pumpkin ales out there. uoffgator (35), Miami, Florida, USA Oct 11, 2007 This is my favorite of all the pumpkin ales ive had. It literary seemed like i was drinking a pumpkin pie drenched in beer. now what on earth could be better than that? BossHossBikes (147), Tennessee, USA Oct 10, 2007 Bottle. Pours a transparent copper with a quickly diminishing white head. The aroma is very spicy. Nutmeg and cinnamon is prominent while the pumpkin lingers a little behind. There is a darker citrus aroma that hits the back of your sinus. Caramelly brown sugar sweetness tops off the aroma. It’s quite delightful to the olfactory senses. As it hits the tongue, there is a sort of disappointment. The taste isn’t nearly as rewarding as the aroma is. The spice flavours are more subdued. The dark citrus flavours seem to be more equal in flavour as the spices are. What seems to be most prominent is the sweetness. This is very sweet. As the brew passes the tongue, there is a delicate lingering taste of pumpkin and brown sugar with a dash of spices. The aroma is amazing. However, the flavour is a little too delicate for me. This would, however, be a really nice desert beer. MadMan (497), Tempe, Arizona, USA Oct 9, 2007 Updated: Nov 5, 2007Bottle. Pours brown, amber, with little white head. Aroma is of spice, nutmeg comes out big, then allspice, maybe a hint of cinnamon, and a touch of sugar. Body is medium. Flavor is malty, with light spice, the brown sugar comes through here specially towards the warmer bottom of the glass. Finish is all spice and dries up things a bit at the very end. Lingering pumpkin flavors. I am not a seeker of these styles by any means so this is my first pumpkin ale but it’s far better than I expected. I got another version in the fridge I can’t wait to compare this to. Overpriced because it’s DFH in AZ but still probably worth another bottle for me. Well put together and not overdone.
Re-rate: managed to find another case fo this stuff. I think I got all that’s left in AZ for this year. This stuff is great, and I’ve got 4 other brewers versions so far to compare it too. pforei (338), USA Oct 7, 2007 Rich amber color moderate beige head. Aroma of spice and pumpkin. Taste has less pumpkin and more brown sugar/caramel/brandy flavor. Tart effervescent alcohol finish. Joel (7), USA does not count Oct 7, 2007 A wonderful spiced beer with the subtle smell and taste of pumpkin. A solid full-bodied ale with a sweet and malty taste. Flavors of cinnamon and nutmeg come through loud and clear with a moderate alcoholic finish that is warming. Very enjoyable! bdigital (585), Ft Wayne, Indiana, USA Oct 7, 2007 Bottle: Clear, light amber colored pour, basically no head whatsoever. Strong malt and dough aroma with notes of nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla and cream. The body on this was quite disappointing especially coming from DFH. Very thin, watery base. The flavor profile pretty much follows the aroma and this did improve as it warmed. Not much pumpkin picked up on until the last few drinks and sure enough it tasted like a pumpkin pie. I’m left feeling a bit underwhelmed, mostly because of the high expectations I had and the lack of body. Not worth the price I paid.
