thehinge (244), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Oct 10, 2009 This nutmeg, spice and hop combination works exceptionally well. Sweet/bitter combo. But, I’ve always felt DFH does amazing things with tastes in their ales. alagnak (293), Littleton, Colorado, USA Oct 10, 2009 Nose is really nice. Liquid pumpkin pie with a touch of ale yeast and malt. Flavor is a little harsh given the soft and inviting nose. Bitter malt and nutmeg/clove, with a slightly boozy finsh. This one smelled awesome, but fell apart a little bit. Drinkable. watson1977 (250), , Pennsylvania, USA Oct 9, 2009 pours a very clear deep orange/amber color with a medium white head. aroma is fairly spicy with nutmeg and cinnamon, a hint of pumpkin, and a touch of alcohol. flavor is of spicy pumpkin pie balanced with mild hoppiness. very bubbly mouthfeel and a hoppy and slightly dry lingering finish that has a touch of spices. very enjoyable pumpkin beer that is mildly warming. beerguy101 (3861), Newark, California, USA Oct 8, 2009 Sampled on 10/2/2009. This spiced ale pours a medium orange gold color from a 12oz bottle. Small to no head. The aroma is malty, fruity and a touch spicy. A medium to light bodied spiced ale. The malts are fruity and sweet. The hops are floral. Not a lot of pumpkin, not a lot of spices either. Not a whole lot of ANYTHING here. Some malt, some carbonation and perhaps something resembling pumpkin at the finish, but that’s about all. Maybe I need to try a different batch, because this one was a poor excuse for a pumpkin beer. There is nothing bad here, but there is no flavor either. Sorry DFH this one is a big fail. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet. drjay44 (757), Salida, Colorado, USA Oct 7, 2009 12 oz. bottle from Roxy’s. Pours a thin off white head over a clear amber/copper (srm 10) body....nose is spice, nutmeg, allspice cinnamon, sweet malts (toffee, caramel).....taste initially is quite bland, then the spices dominate, creating a vague spice cake sensation, finishing with a squash/hop bitterness....mouth feel is light to medium, carbonation low. I did not care much for this concoction. The malts were not large or heavy enough to balance the spices and I think the pumpkin squash bitterness sneaked in a little too much. As in the prior comment, I agree the nose gives better than the palate. Beerapprentice (111), Hopatcong, New Jersey, USA Oct 7, 2009 Bottle courtesy of my generous Adrian. Pours a clear orange-y brown colour with an off-white head. Flavourful aroma of nutmeg, cinnamon, pumpkin pie brown sugar, and vanilla. The flavor is less impressive than the aroma. It is a watered down version of the aroma. Weak flavor of pumpkin, cinnamon, brown sugar, malts, hops, and nutmeg. cwondo (21), Rochester, Michigan, USA Oct 7, 2009 Bottle. A light amber, somewhat hazy body with an off-white head that leaves relatively quickly. Pretty good lacing, too. An aroma of pumpkin, brown sugar, allspice, and sweet malts that I can smell across the room. The aroma is heavy and fills the nostrils. There is a good balance of pumpkin flavor and beer flavor (most pumpkin ales I’ve had too strongly favor one or the other) I taste the brown sugar, allspice, cinnamon, and pumpkin, but there is a malty sweetness too, and a good nice hop bitter. The palate could be better - a lot of carbonation and thinner than I expected. bigguns22 (88), Maryland, USA Oct 6, 2009 This is one of the best pumpkin beers I have had.Amber in color and full of flavor.Think hoppy, malty pumpkin pie.
