the Dan Journal #239. 12oz bottle. Thanks Jerad! Tasted 8/26/08. Filtered and amber with an off-white head. Aromas of allspice and cinnamon. Ginger and toasty malts. Medium bodied with bitter spices and toasty malts. Lotta spice and a woody undertone. Good meld between the spices and base malts.

Bottle: Sweet spiciness lingers from cinnamon, nutmeg, and a carmelized sugar kind of thing. The first sip seriously tastes like burning spices. Just overwhelming with whatever the fuck the label says; seems more like radioactive cloves to me. Awful lingering aftertaste suggests getting a large bottle of water. I drank half this before getting heartburn...

Dark amber body with red highlights, very thin white bubbly head. Smells like a malty and less nutmeggy pumpkin pie. The flavor is very similar, except that it has a little more spicy nutmeg in the finish. A pretty good novelty beer. The nontraditional beer elements aren’t overdone (see Lakefront Holiday Spice for this), but I don’t see myself drinking this too often.

Cinnamon aroma is evident, although there’s nothing else overly spectacular about the nose. You can capture the essence of allspice at certain angles. Orange body, the hue of which is perfect for the Halloween season. Cloudy with visible particalia. Average sized off white head that is full diminishing. Nice flavor. I wonder what this would have tasted like without the allspice. It makes the flavor seem a little contrived and more an amalgamation of flavors that don’t quite work together. It still ends up a pleasant brew, and the 7% ABV is substantial enough to hide some flaws. Malty, sweet and allspicy. I wanted to wait until Halloween to crack this brew, but not sure if it would have held up all that well a year after brewing. There aren’t an overly large amount of hops for preservative qualities. Unique. Thanks, matta.

smells like pumpkins and cinnamon. pours out orange in color with a thick head that goes away relatively quick. has a sweet taste, taste like liquid pumpkin pie. this isnt too bad, im just not too keen on the whole pumpkin beer thing. but its a ton better than cotton wood pumpkin ale.

Chestnut body with minimal head. Aroma is light allspice with some alcohol. Not enough malts or spice to flavour this like pumpkin. Simply not as good sa many other pumpkin ales out there.

12 oz bottle courtesy of eaglefan538. I assume this is the 2008 version. Pour is clear orange caramel with some quick settling and a smallish off white head. Aroma of cloves, cinnamon and pumpkin. Also some nice nuttiness, nutmeg. Certainly a pumpkin beer nose. Taste is the cloves, sharp bitter spiciness, cinnamon, pumpkin and a peppery finish. A hint of alcohol heat coupled with the brown sugar in the aftertaste. There is a bitter waxiness to the palate, which somehow also manages to be creamy, medium full, and mouth coating. This was an aggressive pumpkin beer to be sure, but it was well made and flavorful.

12 oz Bottle Pours out a amber/Pumpkin orange. Very small off white head. A light pumpkin aroma. A nice spice of nutmeg. Tast good just like after a good Turkey dinner. thanks Indiana_Red.
