| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Nov 23, 2003 I just rated a caramel porter before this one and noted how difficult it is to make a fruit or spiced beer that does not taste like two separate entities as you swirl it around in your mouth. With respect to making spiced ales which integrate the featured flavor with a good overall beer flavor, this one is close to perfect. Has a very perfume-like smell full of spices: nutmeg, allspice, rye, cinnamon... I know these are listed on the label, but man, you really can pick them up with your schnoz. Very earthy and spicey, another beer that I could hang over my face in a big harness and just walk around smelling it all day. Though the taste does not live up to the aroma (that would be near-impossible), it is not bad. A little soapy, with a small but unpleasent bite of medicine-like flavors. The finish is like biting into a spiced, baked pumpkin hunk. Wow... I'm impressed... thank you Kinz! clvand0 (350), Lexington, Kentucky, USA

Pours a nice amber color with a very fluffy head that doesn’t go away. The aroma is wonderful - nutmeg, pumpkin pie spices and pumpkin. Smells like a pie, as it should. The flavor has a subdued pumpkin flavor that is backed by the nice mixture of spices. Well done. The drinkability of this brew is a little low because of the spices, but I could see myself drinking lots of these, just one per day. Dogfish scores again!

This is a very tasty beer with a complex and well-balanced palate of pumpkins, cinnamon, nutmeg and brown sugar. Delicious and perfect for a Thanksgiving dinner. beaconstreet (811), Washington DC, USA

Had right at the Dogfish pub in Rehoboth. Beautiful, fresh blend of pumpkin ingredients, dark translucent color. Nice taste for the alcohol rate. Give me some for a nice wild fall night. Pours a rich amber. Aroma is a nice slice o’ Mom’s pumpkin pie. Mmmmm... Nice head with clinging lace. Oh wow. This is a DAMN good beer. Like a slice of pumpkin pie, it has all the necessary ingredients: nutmeg, pumpkin, cinnamon. Oh yeah, this is GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD. And take it from someone who doesn’t like this brewer: Try it. It is THE BEST pumpkin ale I’ve ever had. london1o1 (14), USA

Excellent balance of spices for a pumpkin beer, though the sum of the spice taste overshadows the more basic beer qualities. I noticed cinnamon and nutmeg flavors. Great taste. One of my favorite fall ales.
