Faint pumpkin aroma but not much. Initial taste is heavy on the spice. leaves a feeling in your mouth like you just had a spoon full of cinnamon.

It smelled of spices, including nutmeg. The taste was silghtly of spices and was actually a bit mild compared with most Dogfish Head brews I’ve tried. There was a slight alcohol feel and the spice taste didn’t seem as strong as the spice aroma. It was actually quite drinkable compared to other Dogfish Head offerings. beersearcher (311), Glendale, California, USA

The pumpkin and spices are there but you have to really wait for it and look for it to get to it. First and foremost is a large malt taste and some sweet brown ale flavors mask the rest of the gourd. Working to hard to not be a pumpkin beer. PolishHammer (79), , Connecticut, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 29, 2009 Dark amber beer with a thin light tan head. More cinnamon than pumpkin and a bit boozey. Sweet, spicey, caramely. Too much bitterness and spice, overpowering the pumpkin with too much alcohol. Still, enjoyable to drink. Listigovers (103), Ontario, Canada

It tastes quite scotchy, and has a bit of a weird alcoholic flavour to it. Quite spicy, in a way I’d enjoy it with pie or something but not so much on its own. I see the appeal, but it’s a beer I’d split rather than drink all to myself. The spices build to unpleasant levels quite quickly. Still, pretty good beer. pantanap (1375), Chicago, Illinois, USA

Pours a reddish caramel brown with a thin wispy ligh beige head... Aroma of pumpkin and very light from a spice perspective...Flavors are of sweet and caramely pumpkin. Not too spiced up like some other pumpkin ales. Earthy from a consistency standpoint and sweeter through the middle and finish. Not much bitterness at all to this one. kabutomushi (8), Japan does not count | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 13, 2009 Very spicy nose with some pumpkin aroma. Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy. Taste of pumpkin and sweet malt is present but not overly so. Nicely balanced. KyotoLefty (1512), Kyoto, Japan

Pretty amber orange color with lace. Spicy, sweet, pumpkin aroma. Huge spices, a bit over the top. Yet the flavor is much more subdued and elegant, a big surprise after the big aroma. Ok pumpkin, nice spices, good alcohol and fruit, with a bit of acid. Very well balanced.

The taste however was a little bit thin given the big aroma and on the palette it was very ho-hum. Overall a decently tasty and seasonal beer.
