dpjuart (670), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 24, 2007 12 oz. bottle split with ’Naka. Pours amber with small white head rimming the glass. Spice nose, touch of malt, and a bit of skunk. Nice malt character, hops are diminished by mulling spices. Still has a crisp finish, with spice and alcohol notes in the after. Pretty damn delicious. Best pumpking brew I’ve had.
glennmastrange (810), hobe sound, Florida, USA Nov 10, 2009 Bottle. Moderate malt aromas of grain, toasted and caramel, herbs for the hops, light leather note for the yeast and background notes of wood and brown sugar. Head is small, frothy, slightly off-white with fair lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is sparkling clear orange/amber. Flavor starts lightly to moderately sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes lightly sweet and acidic and moderately bitter. Palate is on the lighter side of medium, watery with a lively carbonation. Probably because I didn’t get a big hit of pumpkin is the reason I really did like this. Lubiere (4463), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Nov 8, 2009 A hazy reddish brown ale with a thick off white head. An aroma of sweet vanilla fudge and pumpkin pie spices, very nice and subdued. In mouth, a hoppier interpretation, with loads of sweet vanilla malt, cloves, ginger, and nice hops lingering on, oily mouthfeel, quite pleasant. phillybeer28 (15), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 7, 2009 I enjoy this beer. Had it on tap at the Grey Lodge and bottle, and either way is excellent. Smooth and flavorful, with a hint of spice. BarossaLuke (90), Australia Nov 6, 2009 Stubbie. Light brown in colour with spice and chocolate aroma. Flavour is spice with some good malt flavour to. There was no real pumpkin flavour to this beer, so I’m not sure what the pumpkin is supposed to add to it. A curious beer for sure, but not one I would drink again. blindeyedbetty (148), Arlington, Virginia, USA Nov 6, 2009 12 oz. bottle poured a coppery color with frail, dense, off-white head which left no lacing as it melted. Stable, creamy aroma of pumpkin, allspice and nutmeg. Thin body. Flavor of pumpkin, malt and cinnamon with a clove finish and aftertaste of alcohol. I liked this beer more than I had anticipated. It is one of the few pumpkin ales in which I can actually taste pumpkin in addition to the spices. However, I don’t feel that the alcohol was masked effectively and I was hoping for a richer, thicker, more "brown ale" feel overall instead of the watery "macro-micro" feel. I still feel that, as with most of the DFH beers, this one is over-priced and over-hyped. I will say though, in all fairness, that DFH onion rings are the bomb! bw1982 (70), , Florida, USA Nov 5, 2009 I really enjoyed this beer. 12 oz bottle. pumpkin flavor is definitely background, which makes it kind of nice because it is still beer, not pumpkin juice. as it warms up in the glass there are more and more pumpkin pie aromas and the flavors intensify somewhat. the brown ale by itself would be good, but the spices and pumpkin add nice depth.
aaaaaaaaaah (61), Warren, Michigan, USA Nov 4, 2009 Not a strong pumpkin taste, more brown ale. It was watery and not very thick. Had a metallic finish. I like more spicy pumpkin beers, not very impressed; however, masked 7% abv well. Expensive, not worth buying agian. DubC5000 (195), San Diego, California, USA Nov 3, 2009 A kind of thin copper, heavily carbonated appearance on the pour with good head development. Smells strongly of pumpkin spice and rich, sweet malts. Taste is very subtle, nutmeg and smoked wood in the back of the throat with pumpkin and a slight spiciness around the edges. A little waterier than I was expecting. I like a rich, deep pumpkin brew, and this wasn’t it.
