3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 collinmb (61) - - FEB 2, 2013
Mirky brown/amber color. If the beer wasnt so sweet i would rate it higher. Taste some raisin and a solid maltiness.

The beer is auburn hued. Autumnal colors of ruby, crimson, russet. Small off white head that fades pretty quickly to a thin, wispy layer atop the beer. The aroma offers sweet malt, toffee, raisins, brown sugar, clove, a touch of holiday spice. Really sweet throughout. Bitter kick in the finish. Sweet raisins soaked in the booze. Fun to try, but best in small quantities. Too sweet. I don't consider this in the Belgian style at all. Where is the yeast and bread character that is so appreciated and associated with a Belgian strong dark ale? I appreciate the fact that Sam brews interesting beers, but I won't return to this one.

3.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Eckato (146) - Gulfport, Florida, USA - JAN 26, 2013
Very nice offering. Pours brown, with little or no head. Flavor of brown sugar comes through, not over sweet, but very balanced. If you look hard enough can find the flavor of raisins, I think. Good beer.

Transparent dark brown, small head. Sweet, thick aroma of dried fruits, all of which carries over into the taste as well. Raisins and brown sugar.

Bottle (12 oz). Thanks to Sebastien F. for this one. Clear copper with a medium quickly diminishing light brown head and some lacing. Aroma is similar to a belgian dubbel with malt, belgian yeast, raisins (if it wasn’t written on the bottle that these are green raisins, I wouldn’t have known), brown sugar and dark fruits. Taste is sweet and fruity with malt and raisins. Alcohol is present and warming. Medium body. Creamy finish. Not bad.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 ozarkspops (199) - - JAN 21, 2013
Light to medium off white head. Very little to no lacing. Deep amber pour. Aroma is of Munich malt breadiness. Flavor is also dominated by Munich malt. Very sweet, also coming from candi sugar. Not much hop presence. Fairly dry finish.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Frothmeister (385) - Ontario, CANADA - JAN 15, 2013
12oz bottle. Pours a clear garnet colour, with a small walnut coloured head. Aroma is up front with dried fruit, cranberry, toffee, brown sugar, corn syrup candies, a metallic note, molasses, and an earthy note. Smells like candy. The taste is sweet, but much drier than the nose would lead you to believe. Again, dried fruit up front, with red summer fruit, dates, earthy mineral notes, once more, the corn syrup candies, plums, dark rye bread, and a bitter fruity finish. It’s sticky, and full bodied, yet because of the carbonation it comes across as much lighter than it actually is. I’d guess doppelbock if tasting blindly. This would be a pretty great holiday beer. Screams Christmas.
3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Jrwhitney6 (117) - - JAN 8, 2013
Pouts a clear brown. Did not get an aroma as strong as others seem to have gotten. Some sweetness (raisins and brown sugar) followed by malt. Good, not great.

Pours a very clear bright red color color with very little head. Aroma is raisins mostly but also plums, figs, and fresh grapes. Taste is slightly sweet and very raisiny and fruity. Not as complex as I expected but some very nice flavors come through. The Belgian yeast flavor comes out a bit in the Finish. Finish is slightly dry and it works to counter the sweetness. A pretty good Belgian style beer.
