3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottled on 7/22/2011. 12 oz bottle into a DFH signature glass. Despite the average reviews on here, this is probably my favorite year round DFH brew.
A - Great mahogany brown body with some traces of red. 3 finger light khaki head formed after an aggressive pour. This died down to some edging with decent lacing.
S - Extremely sweet. Boozy raisins, caramelized sugar, honey, biscuity malts, and belgian yeast. Very little hop presence at all. I really enjoy the aroma, however the alcohol does seem quite large.
T - Sweet raisins, brown sugar and caramel followed by some bitterness and tartness. Loads of biscuity malt flavors. The finish is very boozy and sweet, so much so that it almost burns the tongue due to the carbonation. Smooth and medium mouth feel.
O - This is a delicious and unique beer with only one real downfall, the booze. At 8% it becomes very noticeable. I do love belgian inspired beers, and the sweet raisin flavors and aromas will keep me buying six packs of this brew.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
This one is over a year old, let’s see how it held up.
Pours as described: mahogany, with a finger of honey cream foam that falls to a scattered surface leaving cobweb lace. Smells of raisins, honey, candy, and the slightest hint of brown sugar. Flavor is sweet and malty. Plenty of the candy sugar comes through, and the malts seem appropriately oxidized adding just a hint of woody character. There is a nice, subtle belgian character in the yeast, but not nearly as dominant as the homeland offerings. Nice, moderate body is matched with a good, smooth and prickly carbonation. I dig this offering, not so much fresh, but at this point, I really enjoyed.

Taste: sweet with a wine like finish.
Palate: medium/thin. Thick texture. Nice finish.
Overall: I really like the aroma of this beer. The palate and appearance are lacking, but the aroma is very nice.

3.3 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Poured from fresh growler. Smell is of alcohol and raisins. Nice clear auburn color. Taste is malt heavy with sweet dark fruit and raisins. This stuff has an extremely strong alcohol taste for only.being 8%. Sweet sticky mouthfeel. A bit disappointing.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: NOV 28, 2013 Bottle pours a dark brown with a light white head. The aroma is quite malty. The taste is full bodied with a wet finish. I get all sorts of malt, and some Belgian wheat. Overall a rich beer.
