Bottle. Great amber color, nice tan head decent lacing. Get the yeast and raisins up front. Really tasty - clean, lots of flavor, maybe a little caramel or coffee hint to it. Love the grape/raisin flavor and find this a refreshing beer despite the 8% ABV. I can see where it could be polarizing with the love/hate thing going on.

I rate beers I think significantly better than average, simple as that. I am not into showing off through bloviating. :)

On tap it is a deep brown with small light brown head. Taste is malt and raisin with some floral background. Goes down smooth and clean with great balance. A very good beer.

Reviewed from notes and this is my last DFH beer until I can get back East. Countless times this has been poured into snifters and chalices and it has always looked the same and smelled the same. The appearance was a nice hazy dark brown close to black color with a nice one finger white to off white foamy head that dies within a minute. There was some light lacing sticking around the sides of the glass. The smell started off with the raisins and then allowed some nice spicy Belgian spices to settle over top of the beer. The taste took those flavors and added a light lingering breadiness about it. On the palate, it sat about a medium in body and allowed a decent sessionable quality about it. Overall, I say this was a pretty good Belgian Strong Ale worthy of having again. Now I guess I gotta get back to the East Coast.

This one poured a nice reddish/brown color. On top is a thick white head that faded off quickly to just a thin ring around the glass. The aroma is full of sweet roasted malts and raisins. The flavor is full of roasted malts, caramel, toast and green grapes. A light hop bitterness balances out the sweetness. Its medium to full body and soft carbonation gives it a velvety smooth mouth feel.

From bottle, pours deep reddish brown with a full head with medium retention. Aromas are sweet caramel and hints of yeast. Flavors of sweet meat, maybe vague prunes, caramel, vermouth, nice malt character. Medium malty finish.
