3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 collinmb (61) - - FEB 2, 2013Mirky brown/amber color. If the beer wasnt so sweet i would rate it higher. Taste some raisin and a solid maltiness.

Tap. Deep copper with small head. Mild fruitness with plum and raisin. Interesting fight between sweetness and dryness.

The mix of powerful flavors tend to overstay their welcome. I usually like the brand, but it feels like the brewers didn’t quite know which direction they wanted to go in here.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 czar (2399) - Québec, Quebec, CANADA - JUN 4, 2013
bottle at mondial de la bière, mtl. pours clear light brown-reddish with a low light beige head. phenols, caramel, toffee, raisins, plain toasted demerara. average to soft carbonation - smooth mouthfeel, medium body - oily, short resiny but also sugary, almost cloying finish. like many DHs i guess: meh.
4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Joelly3d (27) - Kentucky, USA - JUN 1, 2013
My source was bottles, I can imagine this being exceptional on tap. Interesting flavor on this one. Tastes like a Belgian ale but has noticeably different accents. Borders both bitter and sweet and has an alcoholic overtone. Overall this is similar to the aged Abby ales, if you like those, give this a shot.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Bière-Luc (359) - Montréal, Quebec, CANADA - MAY 29, 2013
Bière rougeâtre, peu effervescente avec un nez de sucre cuit / caramel. La bouche abonde dans le même sens avec des notes sucrées qui se révèlent nettement plus fruitées en finale.
4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 ronaldtheriot (811) - Laplace, Louisiana, USA - MAY 26, 2013
Dogfish Head Raison D’Etre has an extremely thin, off-white head, that fizzes right away. The appearance is semi-clear, brilliant, reddish-brown, with no lacing left behind and chunky pieces floating about. The aroma is of sweetness, turnip, slight caramel, and odd fruit. Taste is of raisins, turnips, brown bread, vegetable-like sugar, iced tea, and mold. There is an underlying hop bitterness, but this is mild. Mouthfeel is medium and somewhat prickly, and Dogfish Head Raison D’Etre finishes dry, rich, and not alcohilic. Certainly, this beer is unique, and I score it most excellent. RJT

Drank from the bottle. Dark sugar, belgian yeast, raisin and figs make up the taste profile. Pretty decent brew.
