Cruzan59 (130), Lititz, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 5, 2007 Picked up this 6-pack at Dogfish Head Brewings & Eats, Rehoboth Beach, DE. Pours a deep reddish-brown with a medium cream colored head...smell is of sweet fruit and malt...taste has a bit of an alcohol bite, yet sweet, brown sugar and malt...medium body. I like this beer quite a bit...had many, yet to disappoint. Good eats at the restaurant too! ;o)
msante79 (220), Illinois, USA Aug 21, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours dark amber brown with off-white head. Aroam is brown suger, raisins, toffee and sweet malt. Flavor is of sweet malt, brown suger, toffee and raisins. A pleasent surprise as it is not yeasty like most belgain strong ales. Hides alcohol very well. Would buy again. JCastner (21), New York, USA Aug 20, 2008 Pours a dark amber with an off white head that dissipates quickly. Not as much lacing as I would have expected. Aroma is of brown sugar, dried fruits (raisins included), and some malti-sweetness with a faint hint of alcohol. Medium to heavy body. Excellent first bitter sip balanced out with underlying sweetness. Finish is thick and slightly creamy. I don’t care what the other raters say, this is an excellent example of what a Belgian strong ale should be. Better, dare I say, than some of the higher rated Trappists. Stick a Belgian label on it and it would be more popular. guyinchicago (209), marengo, Illinois, USA Aug 17, 2008 pours the color of ice tea with a reddish hue with thick tan 1 inch head, aromas of sweet, earthy fruitfulness and mallts.taste is of caramel dried fruits such as raisons, medium body, creamy, soft carbonation, a another great american craft beer thill25 (183), Orlando, Florida, USA Aug 16, 2008 Pours a reddish brown color with a small light tan head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is caramel, toffee, and sweet dark fruits. Flavor is a mix of caramel, dark fruits (figs, raisins), metallics and a woody undertone. Palate was oily w/ mild carbonation and a lasting sweet finish. Not a bad beer, but certainly not the first Belgian Strong I’d reach for... ajm (304), USA Aug 16, 2008 Bottle from Papago. Eh from top to bottom. Aroma caramelized but faint. Flavor woody, malty, rasin peels but not particularly pleasing or memorable - texture unlike a Belgian. Extra is likely the one worth drinking.
