Aroma of alcohol. Taste of alcohol. Seriously, this is too much. The regular D’Etre is much better.
Update: Had it again 3/28/09, like it better this time. Taste is of a very strong barleywine. Still a little too strong, alcohol-wise, though. blipp (1638), Newark, New Jersey, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 21, 2008 Bottle. Pours hazy red with a yellow head. Strong aroma, a bit sweet, with raisin and a bit of booze. Flavor is also sweet and fruity, with raisin, brown sugar and again, just a bit of booze. Very easy to drink for 18.5% ABV. blutt59 (2096), Dallas, Texas, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Aug 14, 2008 nice dark carmel color. has a thick mouthfeel and a stong rasion taste. i don’t like rasions too much. this beer i will not try again unless it is free. not bad though. radagast83 (1289), Fairfax, Virginia, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 11, 2008 12 oz bottle, purchased sometime in mid-2007 (date lost to the winds). Pours a deep red-brown color with a small light tan head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is alcohol, malts, raisins and other dried fruits. Flavor is strong warming alcohol, with dried fruit - raisins. Enjoyable, but certainly only a once-in-a-while kind of beverage as I’d probably rather just drink Raison D’Etre. craftycarl21 (525), South Hero, Vermont, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 10, 2008 Pours red-orange, cloudy, with a small yellowish head. Alcohol, apricot, malt, and raisin are evident on the nose. Flavor is sweet, with candied orange peel, sweet malt, raisin, and a definite alcohol bite, due to the high ABV. Nice prickly mouthfeel, very nice brew. NJBeerman013 (771), Trenton, New Jersey, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 10, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours a deep amber, brown in color with an almost nonexistant head. It has a sweet, dried fruit aroma. The flavor was along the same lines as the D Etra version, full of dried fruit, with a bit more of an alcohol kick. As it warms, it takes on a bit of a brandy characteristic, growing legs, the alcohol becomming more prevelant... It evolves into a full bodied ale with a bracingly warm finish. Well crafted and most enjoyable. 12many (231), Ohio, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 9, 2008 Bottle. Definitely a step up from the etre. Brownish burgundy with a decent head. Dark fruit aroma with some roastiness and alcohol. Sweet mostly, smooth for such a high alcohol content, very warming and nice to drink. Very good. I can see myself drinking this on cold winter nights.
