NosirIwont (1162), Aalborg Vestby, Denmark Oct 17, 2009 Bottle. Pours a hazy reddish brown with a beige head. Aroma is bread, raisins and dark fruits. Slightly oxydised notes. Overly sweet. Flavour is syrup sweet with dark fruits and alcohol. Interesting, but a bit too much. Same finish. Lingering caramel notes. 26-09-09. f351c4v (404), Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 9, 2009 Rating #400. Bottle @ Shady’s. Pours a clear dark amber with no head. Alcoholic nose, followed by a hint of sweet fruit and spices. Complex body swirls with brown sugar, molasses, raisins, and tons of malt. Sticky caramel finish with a punch of alcohol. Epic in every way. ruskiimperial (52), Richmond, Virginia, USA Oct 8, 2009 Poured from a 3 year old aged 12 oz bottle. This one has aged beautifully. The aroma has some strong dark fruit with a mix of caramel. Lacing on the glass is very strong and prevalent. There is some head, but its rather thin. The initial flavor is very sweet which is followed by a more subdued raisin-like flavor As previous reviewer stated, the sweetness reminds me of a porter but its not quite as sweet. The aftertaste has a very distinct dried apricot flavor. Excellent beer for sipping. TheEpeeist (1429), Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 6, 2009 12 oz bottle, cellared a year or two. Hazy brown with a trace of foam. Nose is boozy raisin, caramel and light cardboard. Kind of syrupy with light carb. Taste is very port-like though not as intensely sweet. Woody, burnt sugar, unspiced baklava and raisin. Dry finish with bitter plum pits. Pretty good for a hot sipper. TampaBrew (746), Tampa, Florida, USA Oct 3, 2009 2006 bottle. Pours amber. Nose is alcohol, raisins, grapes, some sweet sugars. Flavor is heavy warming alcohol, sweet raisins, dark fruits, candy sugar, sweet malt, some mustiness, slight oxidation. Semi syrupy mouthfeel. Mellowed out nicely. I suggest cellaring a few of these. nerdrocker101 (102), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Sep 28, 2009 Bottle. What can only be described as a swift kick in the face of molasses, dark fruits, and sweet malts. No hiding the alcohol in this beer. Ruby brown, syrup like body. Low Carbonation. Definitely something you just have to try for yourself. jbender (17), Hatboro, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 25, 2009 bottled on 3/15/07
Has a roasted molasses sort of aroma....can also smell the raison. Alcohol scent very hidden for being 18.5% ABV. Cloudy amber appearance with almost no head at all. Sweet taste with a hint of raison and brown sugar. Maltiness does a good job holding the taste considering how high of an ABV there is. Almost no carbonation...medium body. A great after dinner beer. Boliv (188), New York, USA Sep 18, 2009 12 oz. bottle. Pours hazy brown with a touch of reddishness, kind of like apple cider. Absolutely no head except for a thin white rim of foam around the edge of the glass. Aroma of thick roasted malts, syrup, brown sugar, molasses, figs, alcohol, and raisins. Flavor is full of sweet dark fruit, roasted malts, and alcohol; it’s very thick and chewy. It fades into burnt/caramelized sugar with a hot, dry boozy finish. Considering the ABV, it’s quite well hidden. I like how the alcohol is not the focus here, but rather complements the beer. Gets a touch sweeter as it warms. Really good.
