TeamTrappist (365), jericho, New York, USA May 4, 2008 12 oz bottle from 06. poured a thick carmel color, with a very thin white head. Strong sweet and alcohol nose.Intensely sweet taste, port like, but sweeter. Somehow through all that sweetness, a hint of bitterness comes through in the finish. Fairly strong alcohol bite, and a bit of tanginess , I will take a broad guess here and say that is from the raisins. Definitely interesting, but definitely not a session or every day beer. Nephilium (541), Ohio, USA May 3, 2008 (12 oz. bottle) Starts with a very sweet nose with underlying alcohol notes. Pours a clear red with visible sediment floating in it, and with a fluffy off-white head. Very sweet flavor, with hints of raisins and noticeable alcohol burn. Needs something else in it to balance out the sweetness. lemasney (398), Trenton, New Jersey, USA May 3, 2008 ABV: 18.5 %

Impression: A beautifully dark, deep ruby color, slightly hazy due to bottle conditioning. The alcohol is present even in the aroma, but it is also a mix of chocolate, raisins, and sweetness and flowers. The taste is just too much for me. Very much like the 120 Minute IPA, it simply overwhelms the palate, and tastes almost like syrup, but an alcoholic syrup. It demands to be lightly sipped. Just a bit on the tongue is all I can enjoy, and I’m not that big a fan of raisins. It makes one’s eyes cross. Affects all areas of the mouth. Rich like molten lava cake, it’s hard for me to enjoy, though I’m glad I found my limits in this latest batch of tastings.

Overall: 15 out of 20 MrChopin (621), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA May 1, 2008 Nice nose with oranges, cinnamon, raisins, and chocolate. Dark body with wine-like lacing. The alcohol is detectable, but not unbearably so. The flavor has a host of fruits and malts, but sweetness dominates them all. In fact, a little too sweet. Something to enjoy occasionally, given price and ABV. badlizard (2325), Berkeley, California, USA Apr 26, 2008 bottle from lone hill. Holy Christ, this is good! Hazy copper brown wth a short lived fizzy head. Aroma of raisins and brown sugar, very sweet. Taste similar to aroma with a much more intense raisin presence. Another excellent beer!!! And as always the alcohol is well hidden. jake65 (1658), Williston, North Dakota, USA Apr 24, 2008 Bottle: Pours a nice amber with very little head. Aroma is fruity and sweet. Candied sugar and citrus. Flavor is rich in sweetness and plenty of dark fruity qualities. It has a carmalized sugar quality to it. A nice warming effect and soothing on the palate. Thanks Slob! jstraw (750), Chicago, Illinois, USA Apr 23, 2008 In bottle at Jerry’s. Dark caramel with decent, beige head / Big nose of raisins and wine / Full, sticky body, with thick, sweet malts and long finish. Alcohol nicely balanced / Flavors of raisons, figs, caramel, sherry, and nuts / A big, rich, ideally winter ale. BlackForestCO (819), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Apr 18, 2008 Updated: Mar 8, 200906 bottle shared by Crosling. Poured a nice ruby-amber color with a thin beige head that quickly disappeared. Aroma of sweet malt, raisins and a bit of honey and fig. Strong, sweet malt with some caramel and strong undertones of raisin, fig, some plum, and perhaps a bit of grape. Light alcohol burn on the finish, but not bad for 18.5%. Slick and smooth on the palate. It was better than the first time I had it (07 bottle).
