brigg (213), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Apr 11, 2008 (bottle) Dark amber body and no head. The aroma is strong with alcohol and sweetness - honey and raisins. The flavor is dominated with alcohol and burns the throat a bit. Also very sweet. Unusual. beergeek86 (33), Clarksville, Maryland, USA Apr 9, 2008 a very strong version of the raison d’etre. i am impressed by the amount of flavor in this beer. very raisin-y sweet, yet noticeable burn from the alcohol too. too much grape flavor apparent. the palate was not as thick and chewy as i would have liked in such a strong beer. comparable to a barley wine, just like the 120 and the wws. nice lingering, fruity and carmely finish with a hint of hop bitterness. nice to try it just once, considering the price. kassner (429), Wexford, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 9, 2008 Enjoyed this beer with friends in MD, but don’t recommen drinking by the Pint. Really big, but the alcohol is not that noticeable, the sweetness and fruit flavor are dominant and the beers flavors linger a long time jarspag (593), Los Angeles, California, USA Apr 9, 2008 12 oz bottle shared with Simon. Prunes, sticky sweet malts, raison, and a pretty good amount of booze. This is just about as sweet as I can handle, and needless to say, I wasn’t really all that into it - too cloying. 6 oz was plenty! CSchenning (8), Falls Church, Virginia, USA does not count Apr 8, 2008 12 oz. bottle of the 2005 vintage aged by the good folks at DFH in Falls Church. Poured a (shocker) golden raisin color with nonexistent head. Powerful, decadent nose that contained strong flavors of caramel, raisin, alcohol, and fig. Lingered over this one for the better part of an hour...not for the faint of heart! AgentSteve (1334), SF Bay Area, California, USA Apr 7, 2008 Updated: Jul 19, 2008Pours an opaque mahogany with zero head. Nose is powerful. Sweetness from dried fruits and sugars strongly present along with alcohol. Flavor is equally as powerful as the nose, with sweet fruits, malts, toffee, and booze. It burns all the way down. The mouthfeel is viscous, which helps the intensity. This is an experience. IPAGargoyleGuy (139), Troy, NY, New York, USA Apr 3, 2008 I thought this beer was pretty good. The raison flavor dominates, but other sweet, fruity and spicy flavors shine through. The alcohol content is noticeable, but does not ruin the flavor like it does with the 120 min. Crafty07 (391), Florence, Kentucky, USA Mar 28, 2008 Oh my god this is truly awful. I don’t give a shit how high the IBU is or how high they were able to make the alcohol content, this is a rasiony god-awful mess! what was subtle in the original D’Etre version becomes this pruny, cloyingly sweet mess in this. Don’t let the hop snobs fool you.
This sucks.
