RCL (1444), Waltham, Massachusetts, USA Mar 6, 2008 This is a glass of madness. Sticky, syrupy sweet with a hefty kick of booze at the end. ahalloin (54), Arlington, Virginia, USA Mar 2, 2008 This beer pours a reddish-brown with a darker tan head that lingers for quite a while. The immediate aroma out of the bottle is brown sugar, molasses, and black raisins. Upon further sniffing, Belgian sugar becomes apparent as well. The palate/mouthfeel seems large at first but then dissipates like nothing I have ever had before. Maybe I need to let this age longer but the alcohol is the dominant flavor for me. The Belgian sweetness from the raisins is apparent but I feel like I am constantly blind-sided by the alcohol. I have another bottle bought at the same time which I plan to rate in a year or two. travita (1867), Frisco, Texas, USA Feb 27, 2008 Red in color with a small head. Slightly hazy. Aroma is strong with hints of raison and caramel. Strong in alcohol its slightly overpowering.
hoplover406 (204), Crofton, Maryland, USA Feb 26, 2008 Updated: Mar 1, 2008Crazy. Insane. Too much of a good thing. I don’t care for this one. Unlike any other beer I’ve ever had and hopefully I’ll never have another one like it. Alcohol dominates every aspect of this brew. Not good cgarvieuk (4160), Edinburgh, Scotland Feb 26, 2008 Bottle at home 2007 bottle ... Big thanks to TheCheeseMan for this ... Deep red/brown Deep rich nose ... down down deeper and down ... raisins ... cheese ... the nose of an aged barley wine ... rich syrupy tones ... alchohol is kicking its way to the front but held back by a rich sweet flavour ... lots of raisings ... some caramel ... figs ... in the end seem just a bit to in your face... and just a bit rough in its finnish GG (1613), NorCal, California, USA Feb 26, 2008 NorCal Feb ’08 - Good God. Did someone dump wood grain alcohol into this mess before bottling, because it sure in the hell tasted like it. This would get 3’s across the board (and that’s being generous) but it did have a nice appearance in the glass. But damn, what an f’n abomination. It was like drinking alcohol-infused cough syrup like Robitussin or something. Just...bleeccchh. Give’s me the willies just thinking about this evil concoction.
The beer pours out dark mahogany/smoky brown color with a thinnish wisp of a head. Aroma was raisins, Robtissun, and alcohol/solvent/Gunk remover. It wouldn’t suprise me if this thing loosens rusty bolts or removes graffiti from bathroom walls. The alcohol aroma and taste was simply too damned much. A vile raisin/prune puree with alcohol is about the only thing I could get from this beer. If they were trying to get alchol, they succeded because this might just be the hottest beer I’ve ever had. nimbleprop (822), SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA Feb 23, 2008 Updated: Oct 15, 200812oz D’Extra bottle from IM Wine. Pours a nearly opaque, deep rusty, amber brown with a think slightly tan head. Aroma is sticky sweet, honey and malt and sweet fruits. Flavor is alot of the same, heavy honey and fruit flavors, lemonade, butterscotch, and booooooooze. Very heavy and sticky in the mouth with lasting sweetness that is killed by the heat from the alcohol. Very unique but a little over the top in terms of sugar. IlanMan (816), Appleton, Wisconsin, USA Feb 23, 2008 Updated: Feb 24, 2008Pours a nice brown/amber with a small white head. Strong aroma of raisins, malt, and sticky sweetness. Flavor is very sweet as well with a strong taste of raisins, very light hops, medium grain, and a nice warming alcohol sensation. Alcohol is hidden very well but the raisin flavor is a little overwhelmingly sticky and sweet. Definitely a beer to consume with a meal, or a friend. May buy again but only under certain circumstances.
