Beershine (2678), Hue, Vietnam Jan 18, 2008 Aromatic with wafts of malt and heavy on the Turkish bazaar-type sweet nuts and fruits and alkeeyhol. Murky brown, but I poured it all without leaving the yeasties behind. Wimpy head. Chewy body that’s also creamy and goes down well in spite of the obvious alcoholic PUNCH. Alcohol overwhelms the flavors considerably. It’s tipsy, with an afterburn and yet has me sipping enthusiastically. Good barley wine. keepersj12 (774), Sicklerville, New Jersey, USA Jan 14, 2008 Amped up? They ain’t kidding. Great aroma of dried fruits and malts. Sweet flavor with lots of alcohol. Nothing hidden here. This is a sipping beer. You can feel the burn. Best on a cold damp night. KimJohansen (6676), Copenhagen V, Denmark Jan 13, 2008 Hazy brown with medium head. Malty aroma packed with raisins. Sweet flavor with roasted malt and raisins. A bit boozy and too sweet. wilderthanyou (410), Guelph, Ontario, Canada Jan 10, 2008 Pours a hazy copper/brown with no head. Aroma of port, raisins, honey, and alcohol. The flavour is top notch, sweet, but good, it’s complex and hard for me to name them all, but theres obviously some port like flavours, with raisins, prune, and alchohol being the most prominent, with undertones of orange, honey, toffee, brandy, brown sugar, green nyquil cough syrup and black licorice. A top notch brew from a top notch brewery. mabel (2530), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jan 10, 2008 [917-20071205] 12floz (c/o redlight). Alcohol malt aroma has a hint of nail polish or paint thinner. Hazy, dark brown body with quick off-white bubbles. Sweet strong alcohol malt continues in the flavour with a hint of raisin. Medium body. Lots of raisiny booze. chicagodri (1021), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jan 6, 2008 Wow, kind of surprised it is 18.5% alcohol since it hides it pretty well. Pours brown with a ruby tint and no head whatsoever. Smells sweet and fruity (obviously). Goes down smooth and is very sweet. Well done. alexanderj (2213), Chino Hills, California, USA Jan 5, 2008 Bottle, courtesy of KieferUGA. Haven’t had this since I attended a beer festival with golubj. At the time we tried this, we were in no shape to rate or remember it. Poured a bog water brown color; murky. Very little head, despite a fairly vigorous pour. Aroma was of raisins, alcohol, sugar, dark fruit and a hint of chocolate. Definitely a sipper, but pretty well hidden. Flavor of raisins, dark fruit, and sugary sweetness. Good, but wouldn’t drink it regularly due to the alcohol. rsauermann (38), Arlington, Texas, USA Jan 5, 2008 Sam is king of high alcohol beers. All three high ABV beers that become available down here I;’ve tried and liked. Ive had this out of the bottle and tap and love it.
