From a bottle pours amber with a good amount of light brown head, leaving some lacing. Smells and tastes very sweet. With a quickly vanishing finish.

Not sure what year this one is. 12oz. bottle served in a 6oz. snifter. Pours a dark hazy amber with a decent but quickly fading head. Aroma is sort of like cough syrup. Boozy prune raison. Flavor is quite strong but also pretty mellow. Super sweet (also like cough syrup). Instant belly warmer. Would be mighty tasty during a bitter cold winter night.

12 Ounce bottle from shigadeyo! Nose of brown sugar, caramel, a little woodiness, and sho nuff raisins! Very barleywine like! Slightly hazy, rusty brown with a small straw colored head; Flavor very raisiny and fairly sweet, with caramel, only a small hint of the alcohol in the finish. Nicely bodied. This is one I need to get more bottles of to age! But is it really 18.5%? I don’t pick up much alcohol!

This was an odd one for me. I felt the beer was a bit too sweet for my liking, the aroma was decent and the head and color were nice. I liked the Raison D’etre better but that is just me!

Bottle. Nose is reminiscent of apple juice. Sweet with subtle hints of the raisins, and a touch of spice. Cloudy reddish gold with a thin and swirly white head. Sweet as hell, it wraps around the tongue and puts it in a chokehold. Somehow it works though, coming just short of cloying and actually leaving a pleasant impression. It’s thick enough to be chewed, which is absolutely necessary. Very mild hints of alcohol, amazingly balanced for the abv.

12oz. Bottle: Sweet aroma. Smells of alcohol (a lot) and raisins. Poured amber in color with a medium tan/orange head that diminished but lasted throughout. No lacing. Cloudy. Some small floating particles. Sparkling. Flavor is heavily sweet. Tastes of raisins, alcohol, and malts. Full body. Oily texture. Soft carbonation. Finish is sweet and warming.

Deep resinous hue, aroma intense with raisins and whiskey. Taste is a mess of syrupy toffee cake freckled with dried figs, at its core a molten pool of bourbon and vanilla. Dense maple sweetness, spritz of lemon. Dirty oak and copper-metal finish might benefit from the polish of age. A gaudy monolith.

DFH tasting at Flying Saucer (Houston). Nice reddish amber pour. Raisin and dark fruits on the nose. Dry raisin, hops and very dark fruits on the taste. Pretty hot finish that’ll clear your sinuses, but it’s great.
