vyvvy (2023), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA Feb 17, 2007 Pours clear bronze with a soapy tan head. Ther aroma is on the boozy side with Belgium earthiness, raisins, sweet malt and a good amount of yeast. Medium / full body with moderately sharp carbonation. Flavor starts with lots of sweetness and raisins a plenty. There is also lush malt and vineous traits. The finish has Belgium yeast giving a nice earthiness adn some spice with surprisingly light alcohol warmth. The high alcohol is hidden very well here just as Dogfish Head seems to do on their insanely high alcohol brews. Big thumbs up on this well crafted ale. SamuraiArtist (292), portland, Oregon, USA Feb 15, 2007 My favorite dogfish head beer that is available in the NW. Sweet and fruity, definite raisen-prune flavor, not too heavy on the palate making it easier to drink than you would think with the 18% alcohol. Though you can definitely get some alcohol warming it balances out the fruity sweetness and still goes down pretty smooth. BuckeyeBoy (1645), Boise, Idaho, USA Feb 12, 2007 12oz Bottle Pours out a redish brown topped with a light tan head. A very SWEET aroma and tast. This baby is very good. But most american strong ales I have had are very hoppy. Very good I would have to say Thanks Schutzenliesel
millysdaddy (67), Alexandria, Virginia, USA Feb 11, 2007 12 oz. bottle. Pours a warm, amber brown with a thin, tan head. Aromas of raisin and other dried fruits. Flavors of caramel, coffee, raisin and warming alcohol. Although the beer is very sweet, there is a slightly dry and bitter finish. This is a great dessert beer (enjoying some brownies with it right now). It could be used in place of a port or red dessert wine. alobar (1006), Harleysville, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 9, 2007 Dark brown molasses color with a strong fruity aroma. Taste is not for the weak of heart. Super sweet taste. Doesn’t taste like any american strong ale I’ve ever tasted before. Must drink slowly! dirkules (613), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Feb 9, 2007 murky brown / peach in colour. Full body with a thin soapy head. Raisins and ports are here. Wasn’t sure if it would be as strong as the WWS. It’s not, but close enough really. Can be a burden. The drink is malty and really needs more of the hops that dogfish is known to do so well. The crisp freshness is there though. Not bad. motelpogo (4394), Plzen, Czech Republic Feb 9, 2007 rbsxg05, bottled. ruby coloured with no head to speak of. aroma of raisins, sugar cane, brandy, cream. luscious texture, decent hit of alcohol with a slight burn, tastes a bit like a strong eiswein. i think i would have liked this a lot more if i´d had it with some cake or cheese or a good cigar RagallachMC (631), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Feb 8, 2007 12oz bottle via trade with MrBendo. Aroma: Big-time fruit (raisins, grapes, orange), peppery spice, and candi sugar. Some alcohol notes become more apparent as it warms. Appearance: Coppery red in color and clear. Light beige head was full and frothy, but didn’t last long. Nice lacing. Flavor: Very sweet, with a lot of fruit. Getting more grape than raisin. A noticeable orange note, too. Sweetness tastes of caramel and candi sugar. Malt is there, but overpowered by the sweetness. Alcohol isn’t hot in the mouth, but burns a bit going down. Sweetness lingers after the finish. Palate: Full bodied and creamy. Moderate carbonation. Strong alcohol warming over entire mouth. Overall: An interesting beer, but not my favorite. Too sweet with nothing to counterbalance it.
