Sample pour of deep amber brown with no head. Nose is raisins and sweetness. Caramel and toffee, rich. Flavor follows with plenty of alcohol, more caramel sweet malts... Nice alcohol warmth. Light body, and fairly clean with a nice linger.

2007. Brown hazy dense no head. Aroma is big boozy raisin, thick grain. Flavor is the same with big hot sweetness and a dense contained bitterness. Feels is thick and oily. Not love but a hot and heavy lust.

Bottle, 2006. Pours tawny amber, no head. Aroma is impressive: caramel, raisin, prune, sweet bourbon, maple. Unreal. Taste is syrupy maple, sugar syrup, bourbon, brandied raisin, caramel apple. No heat. Delicious, like something Hair of the Dog might make. Easily the best I’ve had from DFH.

On draught at Abbot’s Cellar for a beer dinner with Sam. Excellent complexity and a beautiful pour. Layers of aroma and flavor of raisin, dark fruit and slightly cloying sweet grain. This was a 2006 version served in early 2014.

Tasted from a bottle with ML at DFH (both the 2005 and 2007). Pours mahogany. Aroma is sweet malts, molasses, raisins, figs, vanilla, bourbon, chocolate. The 07 has slightly more raisin and the 05 slightly more vanilla. The flavour delivers what the nose promises. The bottle aging has mellowed the flavour. The 05 is more subtle, and more sweet than the 07. Full body. Wow what an amazing beer. I hope they bring it back.

12 oz. bottle, 2007 vintage. Dark mahogany color with no head. Aroma is like a raisin infused barley wine. Toffee, burnt sugar, prunes and raisins. Damn, you could go into a diabetic shock just smelling this brew!

Flavor is over the top sweet raisin, residential sugar, vinous wine notes, dates with sprinkled sugar and thick caramel candy. The alcohol is not nearly as pronounced as I would have guessed. Unexpected smoothness. Port wine finish. Lots of dark fruit and port wine, unreal flavor. Glad to have had a chance to try it. Thanks to Adam Jackson for sharing.

2007 12oz bottle pours a dark hazy brown with almost no head. Big raisin sweet caramel and almost an oak taste.

2007 bottle shared by Bruce. Aroma of brandy, caramel, and dark fruits. Pours thick and amber red with no head or carbonation. Taste is a sticky mess of brown sugar, raisin, dates, and booze. Big sticky boozy mouthfeel. Had to drink this slowly throughout the night. A sloppy mess but still a treat.

2005 12 oz. bottle. With the intimidating yellow warning cap. Brownish-black color. Pours with some fizz, but does not manage any head. Smell has sweet sherry notes, a hint of crushed green raisin. Taste has a thick mouthfeel of prune juice and more sherry. Prominent alcohol has a slight burn among the sugar. Solid layer of yeast dregs at the bottom of the bottle. Ultimately, I feel like it’s lost the character of a beer and let the fruit take over. Well, that’s the risk when finally deciding to pop one of the strongest beers in my cellar.

12 oz. bottle shared with drsordr. Pours a clear copper color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor has big sweet malts, dark fruits, raisins, dates, brown sugar, caramel, some alcohol still shows through. Sticky, thick mouth feel. This has held up very well over the years, this bottle was from 07 I believe.
