[bottle - 12 oz - 2005 vintage] Sampled an aged and a new 2008 one, but I am rating the 2005. Murky ruby color with a very thin tan head. Not much apparent carbonation. Aroma is tons of sweet malts and raisins mixed with some alcohol. Flavor is incredibly earthy, smooth, sweet, and warm. Lots of sweet and caramel malts blend well with a light touch of raisins and finishes clean and smooth with a little sweetness that stays. Absolutely wonderful with age. The only difference between the 2005 and the 2008 was that the 2005 was much more mellow. I recommend aging.

Lots of red in this beer with a quickly disappating beige head with a long lasting ring of bubbles in the glass. Dark, sweet nose with lots of alcohol. Very sweet. Sticky, syrupy sweet. Plum, rum raisin, burnt caramel, butterscotch and brandy flavors all swimming around in lots of alcohol. I don't know why the label calls this a brown ale because it is so much more. At 20%, now I know why I feel this way.

Bottled. Dark brown and reddish in colour with a rather small head. Very powerfull but still well balanced. Malt, raisins, other dark and dried fruits, hops and alcohol.

bottle. copper-amberish coloured body. aroma is very sweet and malty. Just at the first whiff you can detect a whole lot of alcohol and then you taste it and it’s just over the top. There is some other stuff going on in there but I felt that the alcohol was just too prominent and I couldn’t really get into it. Some sweet fruity flavour and a burning alcoholic finish. meh.

Brown with thin head. Oxidized sherry aroma. Nutty and alcoholic aroma. Somewhat fuselly. Very strong near cloying plummy and raisiny flavors. Warming alcoholic finish. Surely sweet but balanced enough for an extra strong ale.

Bottle. Orange-amber in colour with a white quickly diminishing head, no lace. The alcohol in the aroma dominates everything else but the is some caramel malts and its very sweet. The flavour was once again dominated by alcohol, some raison and plums, caramel malt, bread, very sweet. Hot mouthfeel, medium body, medium carbonation. Finishes with a long alcohol burn. Unbalanced and way to syrupy.

Pours clear bronze with a soapy tan head. Ther aroma is on the boozy side with Belgium earthiness, raisins, sweet malt and a good amount of yeast. Medium / full body with moderately sharp carbonation. Flavor starts with lots of sweetness and raisins a plenty. There is also lush malt and vineous traits. The finish has Belgium yeast giving a nice earthiness adn some spice with surprisingly light alcohol warmth. The high alcohol is hidden very well here just as Dogfish Head seems to do on their insanely high alcohol brews. Big thumbs up on this well crafted ale.
