Big alcoholic scent in the front lots of carmel some plums and prunes and touches of raisens... still mostly alchol. Palate if full and creamy very warm. The taste is brown sugar, raisens, hints of carmel and a good amount of warmth in that swallow almost a syruppy flavor feel to it. This is w/ out a doubt a big beer. hophead75 (1964), Boonton, New Jersey, USA

Aroma- wow raisins, fruit, sherry, slight vanilla, wood. Taste is of raisins from start to finish. But, throughout there are plum fruit flavors, sherry characteristics, and slighty woody and vanilla tastes. Complex beer that leaves a taste in your mouth like you just had fresh raisins Slick (1962), Thief River Falls, Minnesota, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Sep 24, 2003 2002 vintage, very young and damn i had no idea it was 20.5 ABV.This will definately be an adventure.Nice dark amber color, small uneventful head that faded fast. The aroma was Wine like and mildly malty with a nice dried fruit hint and maybe some other fruit that i just can't identify, sofar so good the alcohol does show up in the aroma but it is sofar mild.Very sweet taste with a heavy alcohol accent, fruity and syrupy kind of heavy on the palate, and hard to down with the alcohol getting in the way,i've always had a hard time with these high ABV brews. The brew is quite phenominal and tasty but the alcohol has a definate hinderince to it.Possibly with more time it would blossom into something less harsh but at this age it's an ass kicker. Thanks to Pabobcat for this brew. The aroma is full of fuit sweetness, spice, and alcohol that will have you sniffing for a while. The taste was an extremely complex combination of flavor and alcohol that will leave a warm feeling in your face. Unique and worth trying. scraff (1955), Baltimore, Maryland, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jan 19, 2004 Extremely rich and fiery beer. If that makes sense right off the bat. Very hazy ruby colored ale. Extremely malty, sweet, rich and buttery. Many notes of dark fruits, caramel and toffee, and lesser notes of brown sugar and tawny port. The fiery aspect of cognac blended with belgium candy sugar is a treat, and certainly makes for one hell of a warming on the way down. Full bodied and a bit syrupy. I love it and want more. Special thanks again go out to John at DFH. Are you sure you're not going to make this again?? :-) fordest (1954), Santee/San Diego, California, USA

Dark amber pour with a head that was there then instantly gone. Aromas of sweet sugar and caramel and raisin. Rather barlywinish in smell. Very sweet in flavor. Carbonation is hard to dectect because of the alcohol level. The ABV is apparent more in the heat traveling through the nose than in the flavor. Very well disquised. Flavors are raisin, more molassas, still rather barleywinelike, but much much sweeter. Very syrupy in texture and flavor. I like the flavor, but the ABV is over the top, as is the viscousness. | 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 20/20 | Jan 16, 2003 Yowza. Very reddish. Beautifully fruity nose, loads of peaches, pears, and strawberries. Lovely, lovely flavor. Very fruity, strawberry hints throughout. More like a port wine than any beer I've ever tried. Tastes of chocolate and brandied cherries. Alcohol amazingly well-hidden, really only noticeable after the swallow, and the slight burn was only noticeable deep in my chest. A beautiful brew, but doesn't remind me in the vaguest of Raison D'Etre. StewardofGondor (1934), Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 27, 2005 12-oz. bottle. Beautiful, opulent cherry in color with a relatively calm top, along with nice vinous legs on the sides of the snifter. Aroma is off the charts: grenadine, raisins, fig extract, maraschino cherry juice, brandy, honey and alcohol. Flavor is rich rich rich. Raisins are more bountiful in flavor than the nose. Similarities of a brandy alexander meshed with mead. Rose and honeyed qualities sing a sweet song. Fairly full bodied and a big boy by all means. Finishes like cherry amaretto cheesecake. Nice.
