| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 20, 2009 2007. Dried cherry and dense wood. Heavy. Dense ruby, small tan head. Dense and jammy, slowly builds and climbs high to a strong and heavy boozy finish. Sweet throughout. So sweet that the boozy character isn’t able to bite or sting like it should. Warming throughout, makes me smile. I know I drank it quicker than I should have but it’s hard to set down. biz82 (1328), austin, Texas, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 9, 2006 Quite clear and reddish amber with little head. Alcohol, rotting fruit, grape and leather in the aroma. Slick, thick palate. The sweetness is slightly more intense than the alcohol presence. Port like in flavor, fortifying but a challenge to drink faster than by the sip. Lingering sweet fruity finish. JMerritt (1327), Macomb, Illinois, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 5, 2005 GABF 2005, 3-year old sample. Medium orange with a medium-sized off-white head. Aroma: green grapes, plums, alcohol and sour cherries. Alcoholic flavor, with some sweet toffee, honey, plums and dates - very rich. Alcohol burn is noticeable, but not nearly as bad as it could be at 20% ABV. zathrus13 (1320), Mount Laurel, New Jersey, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 11, 2005 Pours orange/amber, with a quickly disappearing white head. Aromas are fruit, caramel, and malt. Flavors are raisins, wine, caramel, sweet malt, and honey. Heavy, thick body, as expected.
This is much better than I thought...wasn’t sure about the raisins, but it sure seems to work. radagast83 (1317), Fairfax, Virginia, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 11, 2008 12 oz bottle, purchased sometime in mid-2007 (date lost to the winds). Pours a deep red-brown color with a small light tan head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is alcohol, malts, raisins and other dried fruits. Flavor is strong warming alcohol, with dried fruit - raisins. Enjoyable, but certainly only a once-in-a-while kind of beverage as I’d probably rather just drink Raison D’Etre. apoptosis (1316), Long Island, New York, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 24, 2003 This is one helluva american strong ale! Whoa! I can't exclaim my surprize at the amount of alcohol that's packed into this one. Smells kind of like thick applesauce, and you can tell just how sweet and sticky this beer is from its aroma. A decent hop presence for such a sweet brew too - which is necessary for the balancing act, which is does quite well. Beerman6686 (1313), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
