Sexy dark ruby amber liquid. As is expected from a beer of this strength, very little head forms, then verily disappears without a trace. For a beer this massive, it gives off surprisingly little aroma, though I was able to discern vinuous alcohol, raisins (duh), lots of sweet malt and a hint of soy. Flavor is dominated by sweet malt and dried fruit -- raisin, fig, apple, and perhaps some orange peel. Hops provide just enough bitterness to remind you that this is a beer and not a fruit liquer, but are otherwise overwhelmed. Noticeable alcohol makes no secret that this is a gigantic beer, yet the alcohol never becomes crude or intrusive. Thick, cloying palate. I’m pretty fond of other DFH super-high-gravity experiments (120, Worldwide), but this one’s a bit too over the top for me.

Scouser (279) - Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 26, 2015
Pours a deep red mahogany with beige lacing and no head. Aroma of gardenia and alcohol. Raisin, caramel, and alcohol taste. Not a bad winter beer, maybe better after cellaring.

Pours a nice reddish mahogany color with nice lacing and creamy head. Smells of alcohol and is quite floral, gardenia to be specific. Tastes smooth and buttery and of raisins. A very nice beer.

Bottle. Candied malt, chocolate raisin aroma. Dark brown black, slight amber body with thin lasting head. Flavor begins with heavy plum quickly followed by chocolatey malts. Bitter chocolate finish.

UXO (472) - CANADA - JAN 25, 2015
Pours murky medium brown with a short, short-lived light tan head diminishing rapidly to a thin skim, patchy lacing. (3/5) Nose is boozy raisins and other dark fruit, hot alcohol. (8/10) Taste is moderate sweet, mild bitterness, strong alcohol. (8/10) Full body, low carbonation, slick and boozy finish. (4/5) A bit… “enthusiastic”. Might benefit from some cellaring to blend and mellow the flavours and the still-moderate harshness of the very high ABV. Sweet without being cloying, and with an interesting richness and depth of flavour. Not without its attractions, and very drinkable, but a bit of a velvet-covered hammer to the head. (15/20)

Very strong on the nose, with strong malt character. Taste more malts and dark fruits on the first taste. The alcohol catches up at the end. Very nice!

Appearance: pours with a smaller tan head that is soapy and dissipates quickly, the beer is a very nice dark maroon color, clear Aroma: plum, raisin, kind of faint Taste: very strong plum, strong caramel malt flavor, raisin, bitter throughout as well, cherry, Palate: heavy mouthfeel, almost a cough syrup aftertaste, average carbonation, warmth Overall: holy cow this is a strong flavor beer, the malt and raisins make it hard to drink, very bitter as well, very in your face beer that’s pretty hard to drink
