| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Sep 24, 2003 2002 vintage, very young and damn i had no idea it was 20.5 ABV.This will definately be an adventure.Nice dark amber color, small uneventful head that faded fast. The aroma was Wine like and mildly malty with a nice dried fruit hint and maybe some other fruit that i just can't identify, sofar so good the alcohol does show up in the aroma but it is sofar mild.Very sweet taste with a heavy alcohol accent, fruity and syrupy kind of heavy on the palate, and hard to down with the alcohol getting in the way,i've always had a hard time with these high ABV brews. The brew is quite phenominal and tasty but the alcohol has a definate hinderince to it.Possibly with more time it would blossom into something less harsh but at this age it's an ass kicker. Thanks to Pabobcat for this brew. erway (1002), Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA

Extra heavy! Hot and delicious with notes of vanilla plums and raisins. Sweet and alcoholic. Just delicious. Murphy (1759), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 29, 2005 Been waiting literally years to try this! No head, body is clear tan with slow bubbles. Thick molassis, licorice aroma hinting towards big sticky malts. Fruity. Taste is bursting with raisins, plum, molassis. Sweet but incredibly balanced. Coating texture. Long sweet and malty finish with a tough alcoholic burn, but somehow not at all offensive. Most beers that are up in the teens percentage wise can’t escape the damning alcohol burn, yet this one does. Too easy to drink for being so alcoholic! Terminus (1955), Las Cruces, New Mexico, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 30, 2003 Near perfect brown tint with a thin head. The aroma is full of fuit sweetness, spice, and alcohol that will have you sniffing for a while. The taste was an extremely complex combination of flavor and alcohol that will leave a warm feeling in your face. Unique and worth trying. cb (809), Wheat Ridge, Colorado, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Mar 18, 2003 Very thick, rich, dark and heavy...spiced to perfection. Alcohol is really well hidden for the ABV. So much better than the WWS 23%. I liked drinking this slightly warm, as there was much more dark, dry raisin/current flavor. Slight lacy edging. Thanks again to TAR. :) JasonG (701), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Jan 25, 2003 Updated: Feb 8, 2003Looks like a great cognac. No head, not even much lacing. Smells like a great Haitian rum. Fills the mouth beautifully, lots of body, and a little fizzy tingle. So far, so good. Taste starts with an alcohol slam, a lip tingling, mouth burning slam, that is followed by a long slow esophogeal burn. This puppy announces its alcohol fast! After the alcohol slam, and after the fizzy tingle is forgotten, there is a temptation to conclude that this is not beer at all. Easy to feel that way, since with this degree of alcohol most of the malt has long since fermented out and the brewers seem to have left out the hops! I'd like to say fruity, like a barley wine, and indeed the usual barley wine tastes are present if you can get over the burn and the slam. In many ways this is a cross between raison d'etre and a good barley wine, with a whole lot of alcohol thrown in on top. Usual barley wine and raison d'etre medicinal finish. With individual numbers so high, the overall rating may seem surprisingly low. But — really! — what can you do with a 20+% wine in a 25+ oz bottle? It's too sweet to serve as an aperitif, too sweet to serve with food, not sweet enough to serve with dessert, and, hey, how many people do you really want over to share a nightcap with you? What could you possibly do with this beer? The cute little bottles that Anchor uses for Old Foghorn are starting to seem very useful! // Rerated 8 February. I like the flavor more ... maybe even a little more time in the bottle helped? But mostly I decided that a beer this good does not have to be reasonable. Just drink a glass, put the cork back in the bottle, and go to bed.
