thewolf (3983), Kolding, Denmark Jul 29, 2007 Bottle, 33cl, from Ølkonsortiet, Aalborg. A small fog rises from the bottle mouth upon opening. I poured the small bottle into two glasses, mine a Snifter from Skovlyst (suppose that’s alright). The liquid is a stunningly clear dark red, looking more brownish when seen towards my table. Upon pouring, a very small head fizzes on top, but it quickly dissipates. Only a little foam on the sides. Aroma is absolutely overwhelming. There are definitely tones of raisins (of course), but also warming alcohol, a cognac-feel to it. But even through the dark fruityness, a little bit of sweet berries pop through. First swallow: At first it feels low carbonated and oily, but soon small bubbles prickly along my tongue. My tastebuds are dancing already :o) Taste has a general sweetness, lots of raisins, plums, a little sweet berries - ones that actually gives it a little tartness as well. There is no hiding the alcohol, 18,5 % is impossible to masquarade. But even though it’s there, and it is powerful, it never feels out of place. It warms for a long time, all the way down through my throat and into my stomach. The flavours continue to stick to the sides of my mouth. Brilliant!

Something to sip on and enjoy. ILoveNewBeer (90), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Oct 8, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours a beautiful maroon or dark rust. Sweet to the nose and you can "smell the proof" as like in the Sam Adams Triple Bock. Taste of raisins and malt. Delicious I will buy again the next time I’m in the WI area. Pinball (598), Allerød, Denmark Oct 8, 2008 bottle, 12 fl. oz. 2007.
appears muddy golden/brown. dark yellow head that was mostly bubbles and that disappeared really fast.
flavor is raisins, and a little citrus. not that strong. no alc. in aroma. a little sourness also in the aroma.
flavor : alc! lots of alc! also raisins, sweet stuff, bitterness. not balanced, and not really very well tasting. for comparison, rørvig gløgg-øl is much better tasting and about as strong. and they usually make totally shitty beer. Anyways, flavor is, if you can distract yourself from the alc, somewhat belgian, just quite subdued. will let it warm, perhaps it gets better.
an alternative way to get drunk for sure,
If i should compare it to something it would be an average belgiand, add vodka to bump ABV to 20%, and drink..
Still, i love it when brewers freak out and make something special. keep surprising me please.
I think this one would probably be less agressive and more balanced if lagered for some time. What about a barreled version?
I have warmed it now. it just got worse. In my opinion the beer clearly can’t mange the high ABV, alc. distracts bigtime. if you drink it like whiskey (no air) it is a lot better.
