Sam is king of high alcohol beers. All three high ABV beers that become available down here I;íve tried and liked. Ive had this out of the bottle and tap and love it.

Solid dark opaque color. Thick aroma of figs, raisins, yeast, bread, spice and booze. Flavor is a god balance of booze and dark fruits. Tastes a little like a fire, roasted and warm. Good earthy presence as well. Alcohol does NOT feel like 18.5.

Pours a dark ruby red, with a thin off-white head that stays long. Sparse lacing. Nose is intense boozy dried fruits and taffy. Taste is boozy and sweet, but thereís a nice bitter undercurrent that carries through to the aftertaste. Very nice, nuanced brew! Iím a fan.

Bottle pour at home, thanks Andrew for shearing. dark red wine pour, smells of brandy, surprisingly smooth beer for how it smells, sharp taste of raison right off the bat with a little plum, taste barrel aged but its not, and probably would be even better if it was. but still solid.

12 oz bottle pour split. Pours a ruby color with no head. Pure booze, liquor aroma. I thought this was going to be a booze bomb, but it actually ended up drinking really nicely. Smooth raisin, plum flavor. It has a little booze flavor to it, but what the hell, the ABV is higher than I can count in Spanish. This beer isnít bad. If you can get over the fact that it smells like something that removes gum off your leather seats, and just drink it, itís pretty good stuff. Iíll drink this again.

Bottle to stem. Deep copper with bare offwhite head. A: booze, raisin, malt. T: malt, booze, citrus zest. Oddly bright.

No wonder I couldnít find this in North Carolina... Bottle. Pours a mostly clear dark amber color with a smallish off-white head on there. Nose is quite heavy and very fruity, with the raisins being really salient in this brew. Taste is a little sweet, but a little bready underneath. Reminds me a bit of a heavier raisin bread.

Draft at Ale House. Pours mahogany with a tight beige head. Aroma is bread and raisins. Flavor is caramel, raisin, date, oak and booze. Some oak, slight vegetal towards the finish. Some booze in the finish, but itís smooth for 18.5%

3 feb 2015, tap. Rosy/Amber, clear, no bubbles. Nose is serious alcohol, borders on harsh alcohol aroma. Winey, grape jelly, raisins, oak. Full body and mildly fizzy. Sweet malt, raisin jam, moderate alcohol. This is interesting. Itís not as harsh or bold as I expected for an 18% beer, nor is it as rich as I expected. Nice.
