2006. Raison concentrate! Booze works with the flavor components, caramelized malt, pulverized grain. Hides its strength well. I enjoyed this one.
3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 jbrana (54) - NASHVILLE, Tennessee, USA - APR 18, 2013
2007 Bottle. This may not be the best bottle I’ve had of Raison D’Extra, however it still tastes rather nice. Tastes very strong, but smooth, with flavors of raisins, cherries, dates, plums, sweet vermouth, with a hint of caramel / burnt sugar. Overall quite tasty.
4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 OmegaX (971) - Florida, USA - MAR 10, 2013
Hunahpu 2013. I doubt this will be read by the folks that shared this with me, but if you opened this up at Hunahpu 2013 with a guy that shared some Hill Farmstead with you while waiting in line for beer...well I’m that guy. A huge thanks for opening this up on the spot. Hit me up bro!! 2002 vintage. Crazy. Nose is big raisin, grape, and dark fruit. Sugary sweetness in the aroma, with a slight touch of alcohol. Pour was dark brown, no real head. Flavor is big time raisin and chocolate and caramel malt behind a dark fruit presence. A malt bomb, it’s very sweet but extremely satisfying and the massive ABV is barely noticeable. Wow, this was insanely good. Thanks a ton!!
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Chipalsa (1090) - Florida, USA - MAR 9, 2013
2002 bottle, thanks to the mysterious OmegaX. This beer was so smooth and malty, with compliments of yeast it almost tasted yeast-like. It tasted like oak and raisins with hints of alcohol with a touch of cherries. Pretty straight-forward and delicious!
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 Theydon_Bois (2957) - The ’Sham, Surrey, ENGLAND - FEB 24, 2013
Bottle at home, purchased from the Rehoboth beach bar, 24/02/13. 2007 vintage 330ml bottle.
Pours a clear deep mahogony brown with a thin beige head that soon collapses to the edge in the form of bubbles.
Nose is dark fruits, raisens, dates, figs, woody tones, brown sugars, toffee, booze - but not overpowering for an 18% beer.
Taste comprises dark toffee, caramelised sugars, booze - but again kept in check considering the strength, raisens, dark fruits, light woody notes, dates.
Full bodied, fine carbonation - pitched just right so it isn’t overly still and cloying, sweet boozey warming alcohol finish.
A well balanced beer, the alcohol is well integrated for such a high ABV, good stuff!

12 oz bottle purchased winter 07/08. Alcohol was remarkably well hidden. Definitely warming, but not boozy at all. At bit oxidized, but not terribly so. Raisiny.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 madvike (2077) - Middleton, Wisconsin, USA - FEB 13, 2013
Tasted blind. Hazy brown pour with no head. Nose is really sweet and malty, with some spirits in there. Taste is sweet and malty, with some boozy notes through the finish. No hops to speak, but it tastes aged. Body is medium with smooth carbonation.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 laiti (3925) - Tampere, FINLAND - FEB 6, 2013
33 cl bottle @ O’Hara’s Freehouse. Rated on 09.09.2009
Aroma is really sweet with lots of raisins, some ripe fruits and sugar. Flavour is also sweet with raisins, ripe fruits, sugar and caramel. Better drinkability and less disturbing sweetness than in Thomas Hardy’s Ale. Perhaps it is the CO2.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 tricyclist (444) - Spring Hill, Florida, USA - JAN 24, 2013
Sample pour of deep amber brown with no head. Nose is raisins and sweetness. Caramel and toffee, rich. Flavor follows with plenty of alcohol, more caramel sweet malts... Nice alcohol warmth. Light body, and fairly clean with a nice linger.
