matt7215 (539), Cambridge, Ontario, Canada May 12, 2008 12 oz bottle from a trade with thecheeseman. botled on 03/15/07. pours mostly reddish but dark enough to be called brown with a mid sized tan head. more carbonation then i expected. aromas are amazingly potent with dark fruit reigning over everything else but there is also some sweet malt not from the fruit and the occasional chocolate note. flavours are big and brashy. dark fruits, caramelly malt sweetness and alcohol. this is the biggest palate ruiner ive ever had. i mean this one rips your tounge to ribbons but this is somehow not unpleasent. if i had more id let them mellow for a few more years but right now im enjoying this one as much as i can. id probably drink this as a night cap if it was availible in smaller samples.
blutt59 (620), Dallas, Texas, USA Aug 15, 2008 bottle, dark amber color, very pickled vinegar nose, flavor of sour raisins and prune, hot finish Woodsman52 (21), , Ohio, USA Aug 14, 2008 nice dark carmel color. has a thick mouthfeel and a stong rasion taste. i don’t like rasions too much. this beer i will not try again unless it is free. not bad though. radagast83 (1036), Springfield, Virginia, USA Aug 11, 2008 12 oz bottle, purchased sometime in mid-2007 (date lost to the winds). Pours a deep red-brown color with a small light tan head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is alcohol, malts, raisins and other dried fruits. Flavor is strong warming alcohol, with dried fruit - raisins. Enjoyable, but certainly only a once-in-a-while kind of beverage as I’d probably rather just drink Raison D’Etre. craftycarl21 (170), South Hero, Vermont, USA Aug 10, 2008 Pours red-orange, cloudy, with a small yellowish head. Alcohol, apricot, malt, and raisin are evident on the nose. Flavor is sweet, with candied orange peel, sweet malt, raisin, and a definite alcohol bite, due to the high ABV. Nice prickly mouthfeel, very nice brew. NJBeerman013 (575), Trenton, New Jersey, USA Aug 10, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours a deep amber, brown in color with an almost nonexistant head. It has a sweet, dried fruit aroma. The flavor was along the same lines as the D Etra version, full of dried fruit, with a bit more of an alcohol kick. As it warms, it takes on a bit of a brandy characteristic, growing legs, the alcohol becomming more prevelant... It evolves into a full bodied ale with a bracingly warm finish. Well crafted and most enjoyable.
