BlackForestCO (479), Fort Collins and Black Forest, Colorado, USA Apr 18, 2008 06 bottle shared by Crosling. Poured a nice ruby-amber color with a thin beige head that quickly disappeared. Aroma of sweet malt, raisins and a bit of honey and fig. Strong, sweet malt with some caramel and strong undertones of raisin, fig, some plum, and perhaps a bit of grape. Light alcohol burn on the finish, but not bad for 18.5%. Slick and smooth on the palate. It was better than the first time I had it (07 bottle).
douglas88 (652), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Jul 26, 2008 Bottle drank at the Clark Street Ale House in Chicago. Pours a deep amber color with a very small whte head. A very enticing aroma; nuts, raisins, tons of alcohol and sweet fruits. The taste was suprisingly smooth; a very sweet concoction of raisins, brown sugar, some light hops, and a ton of warmth. A sipper for sure. Very enjoyable. ewestern (39), Ohio, USA Jul 25, 2008 The raisin aroma from this beer came very strong right from the start and had me a little concerned. The pour was a nice burnt orange color with a cream color head. Raisins and honey hit your tongue with some carbonation and alcohol. Finishes slightly bitter. Good not keep the glass down for long. Nate (2195), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 25, 2008 From bottle. Alcohol vapors, oaky, syrupy sweet with raisins, honey, and candi sugar. Malty with subtle fruity hops, really overpowered by the sweetness. Deep amber-copper clear, with thin off-white head. Heavy body, not oily but sugary thick. Mild carbonation but a huge warming in this one. Starts and stays very sweet. Cloying. Big taste of honey, macerated raisin, alcohol, light oak, candi sugar. Funky sweet tang to this in the finish. There is some drying bitterness, too, but not enough to overpower the intense sugary pop of this beer. Fine to try, and to share unless you’re in for the evening. Not a good pong beer. thooper41 (205), USA Jul 21, 2008 12oz bottle: pours dark hazy amber brown with quick fading off white head, aroma of raisons malt and hint of alcohol, flavor is filled again with raisons malt and a hint of alcohol none are to overpowering all right at the right balance and just the slight taste of alcohol to warm your mouth up with no burn. very well made beer. abcfan (138), USA Jul 20, 2008 Poured a hazy brown-orange color. Aroma was full of sweet fruit and candy. Very sweet taste for the amount of alcohol in this one. Very fizzy on tongue, almost burning. Very sweet, burning aftertaste. Would drink again.
