3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
2005 12 oz. bottle. With the intimidating yellow warning cap. Brownish-black color. Pours with some fizz, but does not manage any head. Smell has sweet sherry notes, a hint of crushed green raisin. Taste has a thick mouthfeel of prune juice and more sherry. Prominent alcohol has a slight burn among the sugar. Solid layer of yeast dregs at the bottom of the bottle. Ultimately, I feel like it’s lost the character of a beer and let the fruit take over. Well, that’s the risk when finally deciding to pop one of the strongest beers in my cellar.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
12oz bottle. Pours a brownish red with a small beige head. Aroma is raisins and alcohol. Taste is much the same with brown sugar, figs, cinnamon, and molasses. Sweet wine (sherry? port?) like finish. Medium body. Low carbonation. Heavy, thick mouthfeel.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap. Pours a cloudy brownish with a thin beige head and light lacing. Smells sweet, alcohol, raisin, fruit. Doesn’t taste like 18%, sweet flavor (and plenty of it), brown sugar delicious. Light bitterness and a nice sweet aftertaste. Interesting and fun.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
At Maakun’s. Bottle courtesy of Maakun. Black with almost no head. Maybe because of all the alcohol! Aroma of raisans and alcohol. Krentebol, raisans, marzipan, dades. Over medium sweet. Medium body, very dense and alcoholic. More like an aperatif than a beer.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle shared at home. Clear dark mahogany with small off white head that leaves a small ring. Raisin bread, "krentenbol", quite some alcohol, sweet white wine, glue, loads more alcohol, brown bread, brown sugar, caramel, sherry. Lots of nice complex almost oxidized notes, but also crazy amounts of alcohol. Very sweet with alcoholic bitterness. Full bodied with a bit burning alcoholic finish. Way too much alcohol for me.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Clearly unfiltered... Caramel colored with lots of beige floaters.
Dates cherries & stone fruit.
Rich, viscous warm and sweet.
I shared a bottle with two friends and we were all pleased. I'm easy, but they're snobs, so I assume it must have been great ;)

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 19/20
2013 bottle poured into a snifter -- Pours a muddy brown, zero head, and its nose is extremely boozey. A very pleasant sipper. Most of the raisin has fallen out, it drinks like a very strong Belgian dubbel. A very interesting experience. Check this one off the ’want list’.

Great sipping beer. Malty roasty flavours dominate, with doughy notes. Very rich palate.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz bottle. Pours a dark reddish brown with a light head that dissipates quickly. Aromas of caramel malts and cognac. Flavors of brown sugar, sweetened raisins, stick sweet malts, and alcohol. Very warming. Nice enough for a beer that carries a wallop three times it’s size.
